Hi, long time visitor to Samui, first time poster. Living the big life has got got the better of me, time to lose a good 20/30lbs and get in shape. I have heard there are some great detox places on Samui. A buddy recommended one on Koh Phangan, but I dont really want to head over that aways. I am in Maenam, but will travel. Any recommendations for a detox resort that does colonics. I should note I am on a budget so no US prices preffered.

You didn't have to write that you was on a Budget when you're wondering if under $3 USD per Day for a Motorbike Rental is a fair deal or not.. :)

Is Colonics when you stick a tube up your harris then ??

Well Hey There Mick. I undertook a 7 day detox at the Spa Samui a couple of years ago. I felt amazing after. It was definitely worth it and very interesting. There are some great people there, very friendly. The food is great there also - especially after fasting for 7 days and 7 nights. The food was a blessing.

Thai Organic Life shop in Lamai (across the street from The Spa Resort)

has a whole "do it yourself detox system"

including:

nice enema bottle (which is much safer than the other systems I think), herbs, psyllium husks and the clay for just

1500.00 THB

thats right 1500.00 THB

I didnt miss a zero either

Other places charging 20,000.00 THB for their detoxify programs and up to over 50,000.00 THB…

I think this is a good idea to check out at least

Hi John,

A few people have mentioned the Spa Samui and Spa Village, are they one of the same??? Another place called Health Oasis is listed in one of the Samui magazines that seems to so the same kind of stuff. I am going to check them all out today and tomorrow and get some rates. I am ex-smoker and ex-heavy drinker, although I still enjoy the occasional glass of wine now, I am pretty much on the straight and narrow. I am mainly interested in doing the colonics as it apparently detoxifies the intestine - so hopefully I will get rid of all those years of abusing my body. As for exercise, I cant do any high impact stuff such as weights, but I walk about 3 - miles every morning.

Another one was Kamalya, which is supposed to be great but way over my budget unfortunately.

Thanks for that. I will add that to the list. Do you know exactly where in Lamai the Organic Life Shop and the Spa Resort are then?

Thanks for all the recommendations guys and gals. I checked out the Spa Resort at Lamai. Looks like an interesting place, full of colorful characters indeed. Seem to be a lot of farangs offering all kinds of healing treatments, not so much interested in that, but will see what they have to offer.

Their fasting/detox program is about 15,000THB for 7 days, which is quite expensive in my book considering you dont eat for 7 days. Cheaper than the US though. Wish me luck.

It was the Spa Samui that actually brought me to Samui. I saw a TV program back in the UK a long time ago where they put 5 people through the detox process. These people were completely changed after they had finished it. I vowed one day I'd try it.

On my way to live in Sydney I stayed in Samui and did a ten-day fast. It was pretty easily actually and after I felt amazing. I went on to live in Sydney and missed Samui so much I came back to live here. I've done 3 fasts there since. I'd recommend giving it a go.

I eat most of my meals at the spa and have met fasters there for years, some of the changes I have seen are amazing. The people there are really cool too, not like the majority you'd meet in the bars of Lamai...

All the best,

Matt.

Hi Matt

Well maybe I will see you there. I am not going to start straight away, you apparently need to do a pre-cleanse. Once I am settled, I will just do that at my own pace, fresh fruit and vegetables etc. Don't want to shock the system too early. Am also going to wait until I move down that way from Maenam hopefully in the next week. If you can recommend anywhere near the Spa can you reply to my other thread please. Distance is not too much of a concern however as I am walking 3 to 4 miles per day as part of my exercise regime and I have a bike.

stick a pipe up in my ass? no thank you!

Many people go there just for the healthy food. You don't have to do the detox. Personally it's not up my alley either (pardon the pun). The owner is an American, although the prices have crept up over the last few years, still well priced be western standards. As for 15000 a week for not eating, I would give that a miss myself. That is a lot of money that can be spent on good healthy food, steam room there and good massages. In my book that's the best way to detox. Lastly don't do the detox solely as a reason to lose weight, my friend said that whatever you lose you put back on more or less straight away

Mick, I don't hang around with the fasters that much - I simply eat there and go, the Spa probably has the best health food on the island. I'm always flat out with work each day so don't have much time for hanging out, meeting up at the moment, my girlfriend hardly see's me as it is! Get yourself to the Rose Garden or Sukasem on the other side and see what they say about rentals. I'd start a pre-cleanse before doing the detox, maybe 3-4 days of raw food and drinks. Enjoy your time there and relax! The main thing is to take it easy and let the body do it's own healing, no hard exercise. Fasting is awesome, you soon realise after you haven't eaten a few days what food is all about and cravings, etc.

Thanks for the encouragement. I have found a place in Lamai for 7000 a month which I will move into on Monday as I am paid up here in Maenam until then. I was advised to a pre fast cleanse, but I am just going to put that down to eating healthy over the next few days. For those that are interested I am weighing in at a pretty unhealthy 209lbs (5ft 10). I know this is not about losing weight, but if I can shed some pounds along the way then I will be happy for that. I will update with my progress.

When I did my first fast I pre-cleansed with beer the night before... :):D :D :D

I am on the straight and narrow these days with regards to alcohol. Haven't had a beer in over 2 years. Still enjoy the occasional glass of wine, but that wont be part of my pre cleanse I can assure you. My biggest problem these days is my diet, but with the fresh fruit and vegetables I am hoping to get into shape. Watch this space.

What have I got myself into? I am only pre cleansing and I want a burger and fries already. Doesn't help that there is a burger joint across the road.

Have enjoyed a healthy days eating the Spa Special Salad. It's just salad really, but must say was very fresh. Downed it with a pricey carrot juice. Might buy a juicer and save a small fortune.

Seem to be a lot of so called therapist touting lots of snake oil like treatments. Anyone know anything about foot detoxing. Apparently you soak your feet and half hour later its full of brown sludge which is supposed to be toxins from all different organs of your body. Sounds a bit too far stretched for me. Has anyone done it?

Starting on Tuesday I hope, stiil pre cleansing. 'Snake OIil' is a a worthless preparation fraudulently peddled as a cure for many ills. At least that is the definition I stole from the internet. No doubt lots of good stuff done at the Spa Resort but this foot detox apparatus seems a bit dubious. I did a bit of googling and apparently the brown sludge is not toxins at all but simple oxidization of the salt water. I would be interested if anyone has done it.

I saw another thing at Big C where you put your feet in a fish pond and the fish eat the dead skin off your feet. Anyone tried that too?

Posted

Mick, I say go for it. Give it all a try.

I tried fish thing at Big C thing, it felt a bit weird that's all. Never done the foot detox or other treatments so couldn't tell you.

I'd definitely get yourself along to the Tea Ceremony, it's a very nice social event and that tea is strong!...

If you need your back sorting out I would recommend Dr John the local chiropractor there without hesitation!

Maybe this thread should be moved to the health section so Mick can get some more feedback on the detox he's doing and it's benefits?

Thought that I might give an update with regards to my detox program in case anyone is interested in doing one themselves. Nothing what I expected, man am I hungry.

Today is only Day 2 of 7 days, 5 long days to go. I feel like sh*t and I am craving fast food like never before in my life. Have done four colema's. Day one nothing much same out, but today apparently lots of mucoid plaque that has been lodged in my intestine was released (so I am told anyway). I feel very lethargic and just want to eat a burger. Apart from a very basic vegetable broth and some coconut juice that is all I have had to eat.

From what I have been told the first two days are the hardest, so once I am over the peak tomorrow, I should get some energy. That of course remains to be seen.

Anyway people nearing the end say it get better and are speaking highly of the program. So will keep those interested updated when I have some more energy.

The herbal steam room is awesome.

Keep going mate! Look forward to that Guy's breakfast for you first meal!... (maybe I'm a bit nasty in saying that so early in his fast!?)

Thank you Matt,

I am almost over the hump and as much as I am really craving fast food right now, I will stick it out to the end. I am definitely looking forward to the healthy food at the end of my detox. Guy's breakfast is on my list a well as most things on their menu.

It gets easier each day, trust me. When I did my first fast I got so in to it I continued an extra 3 days and did 10 days. It was very easy.

However, for me each fast gets harder and longer... especially when you working here and trying to fast at the same time...
