If the charges are true, then Abhisit benefited from the illegal acts and as such he has to resign.

Where or where have all the hypocrites gone? it wasn't too long ago that the anti red shirt groups were insisting that the various PMs on the opposing side hd to go for far worse crimes, like Samak's cooking show (fiend that he was - cooking on national TV, the horror).

How will TV's bully brigade spin tis to excuse the Dems and of course find a way to blame it on Thaksin. The Dems played hardball and got the hit right back at the pitcher's nuts. This is going to be painful to watch.

This is so funny... where has JDasia, jingthing and animatic gone? silence is golden, golden... must be a Thaksin plot right? and the rest of us don't understand right? wrong!

sorry to burst your bubble, but is this the same Election Commission that Arisman and over 100 reds invaded and terrorised on the 5th April ?

and this ruling has come from the same EC governors who were told to make a decision before the 20th April or else !

seems to me that its possible that you might say anything to kick this political hot potato upstairs for deliberation at a later date

you might even be inclined to follow orders from someone higher up in the food chain to give certain hot headed red folks what they want for now so that they will go home and give everyone a chance to take a breath

its a sophisticated strategy and the reds will swallow it.

Veera is already declaring victory and starting the car

it will never happen though

the higher court will not agree with the EC ruling

the election commissioners will say that they ruled under duress/death threats from the reds and it will all start again with new commissioners

by that time nine months will be up and Songkran 2010 will be a memory

the mercenaries boss, SD will be dead or exiled

the mercenaries will have been rounded up, tried for murder or killed in the process of capture

Thaksin will likely be dead from cancer

Anapong will be retired somewhere quiet.

in the interim period everyone who needs/wants money in the country, from rice pickers to Generals will have been filling their pockets with the countries money topped up with Thaksins millions

there will be a general election

Abhisit will win the election outright

And then you wake up to reality, just face the facts that Abhisit is history. :)

he probably forgot the <irony> </irony> tags for everyone to see

New elections ASAP seems like the next logical step. That, civil anarchy or Burma II .

You mean send the EC's recommendation to the court for prosecution, right? Ironically, this could give Abhisit more time in office than he might otherwise have had.

Thai poll body says ruling party must be dissolved

24 mins ago April 12 - 2010

BANGKOK – Thailand's Election Commission recommended the embattled ruling party be dissolved Monday, potentially handing victory to anti-government protesters who have demanded the prime minister step down.

The ruling comes the same day that Thailand's influential army chief appeared to back a key demand of the protesters, saying Parliament might need to be dissolved to resolve the country's violent political standoff.

Together, the comments by Gen. Anupong Paochinda and the election body's decision could spell the end of Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva's rule, which the protesters say is illegitimate.

Abhisit was largely seen as having the backing of the powerful military, which has traditionally played an important role in the country's politics, and has not hesitated to step in with coups in times of political instability.

But his control of security forces has increasingly been called into question over the past month as protesters repeatedly marched through the capital. On Saturday, soldiers and police failed to dislodge demonstrators, setting off clashes that killed 21.

The commission found the Democrat Party — Thailand's oldest — guilty of misusing campaign donations. The ruling will have to be endorsed by the Constitutional Court before the party of Abhisit is disbanded. No date was set for the court to hear the case.

"If the issue cannot be resolved through political means, then Parliament dissolution seems to be a reasonable step," Anupong told reporters. "If people want a government of national unity, then by all means, go ahead. I just want peace to prevail."

"Right now the circumstances dictate that a solution should be achieved through political means," he said.

I'd like to see the courts dissolve each and every party and ban every current or past politician for life.

Any future politicians will have to take an IQ test and sign a declaration that if they lie, cheat or deceive the public in any way they will be castrated, chained up naked against Democracy Monument and pelted with nam prik and pla ra. They will then be left to cook under the midday sun before the public hold a referendum to decide if they should be carved up in the evening and served as kebabs.

Will there be an increase in 'keyboard violence' in the coming days?

I am expecting more of this

:D:cheesy::D:):D:D:D:D

in the coming days.

But not this one?

:D

EDIT: To add the question: George can we update the fight gif so one is red and one is yellow?

I told it many times but nobody wanted believe me or even listen. Those who called me a nut case, please be silent now.

At his last days now, Abhisit played a little bit the very bad guy, it was the show to pleasethe red shirts and give them a victory. But actually it was an open secret that the EC will come exactly to this decision. EC rulings are according to the laws and not politically motivated.

The very same entities that get attack by the reds propaganda as instruments of dictatorship actually helped the Reds to 'freed' the country of the 'dictator' Abhisit. What they want more, time to go home. Time for talks.

The Reds get the invitation to a Government of National Unity. That offer will separate the sane Reds, the ones who can accept a compromise from the radical part of the Reds who will try to push the issue further. The later will have no public support.

So the dissolution of the Democrats will give the way for a better future. The beginning of New Politics. The old warriors are out of the picture on all sides, banned from politics. A great change to stop the blames and come together. A sane person will understand that there isn't the climate for a new election right now. To much drama, shaked emotions, protest votes under the shadow of the current protests, which will be forgotten next year already when a new color is in fashion. It's clear that there is a need to reform the system.

Reforms, new laws drafted, reviewed and enact by a national unity it will be nothing to complain about. the last ten years we saw so much errors, flaws and wrongdoings, nothing should be repeated. The country is divided, it is time to repair that damage.

Election Commission Rule to Recommend Dissolution of Democrats

The Election Commission has ruled to dissolve the Democrats party for Bt258 million baht donation made illegally by TPI Polene. The case will now be forwarded to the Attorney General's Office for its deliberation.

The Opposition claimed TPI Polene had siphoned the money from the capital market and donated it to the Democrats who then used the money to fund its election campaigns in the previous general elections.

Why is it that this has been brought to light now, after 21 deaths and hundreds injured and millions of baht lost from the economy?

Does all these events have to take place first before any legal body has the courage to raise the issue of corruption?

Only half? to be fair I think those of us with red leanings only make up 15/20% at best - I often feel outgunned when they all come in guns ablaze (rude as well) when I try to put the other side of the case. I have found these threads full of patronizing yellow sympathizers - by the way I heard he cooking red meat for the first course and banana split for dessert - and confused both sides - so that was the end of him!

you could say he jumped out of politics and into the frying pan!

Not that I know anything in particular, but it sure does seem like the government needed a way to both save face and kick the problem down the road for six months or so. Hence, the decision of the election commission. They'll hold new elections and any problems will be addressed at a later day.

I'm sorry folks but if you have lived in thailand long enough you will realize the game has already been decided. You may see the chess moves and see the goal posts move a little but the result is always the same. If you want to use the chess analogy than yes the pawns will get hurt but most of the others will have a nice life. On both sides!

The Democrats had it coming... Although a decision wasn't supposed to be announced until April 20th at the earliest. Seems the "powers that be" have had enough of baby boy Abhisit and quite rightfully so -- they are losing this battle as it currently stands. Time for a change of tactics. It will be interesting to see what Prem's next move will be.

But don't celebrate just yet, the decision still needs to be approved by the High Court.
