Just read this on another website:

Immigration authorities further clarified that there is no longer a limit on the number of times a foreigner may enter Thailand within the days allowed on the Visa on Arrival. The former provision stating that visitors cannot stay for more than 90 days within six months has already been dropped.

So if true, how many times can you go in and out via an airport and are there any time limits? Not that I want to make a lot of flights to Vientienne or elswhere, but I can see the possibility of a few ins and outs, even all the way back to the US for some business meetings.

Thanks

You do not appear to be talking about VOA's. A VOA gives 15 days and costs 1,000 Baht and is only applicable for certain Nationalities.

If you are talking about Visa Exempt Entries there are no limits. The 90 day/6 month rule ended months ago.

You will get 30 days if arriving by air and 15 days by land.

Correct. I mean the usual 30 days one gets when arriving from the USA.

So if the 90 day /6 month limits are no longer in affect, how do the officials think that limiting the land crossing visa runs to 15 days from the original 30 days stops anything? All it does it allow someone to fly in and out instead of continuously driving in and out. Of course now they will have to pay more. Geee....

Do you have to fly out and in, or can you "drive out" and then fly in? For example, land travel up to Vientienne and then fly back to BKK?

Thanks

Arrival by air gets a 30 day visa exempt stamp if you qualify.

Yes. I understnad the normal 30 days. I have been to Thailand nine times. I am asking about a fine point now. Has anybody left Thailand by ground, bus or train, and then flown back in? Any problems doing that? I can imagine somebody squawking because you did not fly out. Just wondering.

Anyone arriving from a country that qualifies for visa exempt entry will get 30 days permission to stay on arrival by air. Where/how you started your journey is irrelevant.

I tend to believe that, but sometimes things happen. Maybe the local immigration guy that day thinks for some reason that you are not following the spirit of the rules that were meant for round trip air flights. Reasons? Several possible come to mind. Trying to force people to fly to keep that industry afloat, etc.

Anyway, not a big deal. Still wondering if anybody has recently traveled around and done that. Say, flew in from the USA, took a train to Vientienne, then flew back in to BKK.

Have a good day.
