I'm Looking To Buy 2nd Hand Pick-up

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I'm looking to buy a 2nd hand pick-up in the near future. I have been renting a Hilux Vigo extra cab and very happy with it. I have heard that Toyota and Isuzu are the easiest to get repaired in Thailand, does this sound correct? I am a Nissan fan myself and have been advised outside of LOS that the Triton is a good truck. Which brand is the best value for money? I have 300-500K to spend. Although I want to spend as little as possible I dont want to be buying someone elses (heap of shit) problems. I could spend more for the right truck.

Not to fussy about extras or show room condition or the year of manufacture, but I do want low Km's and the powerful engine like an intercooled turbo diesle.

Buying vechicles on credit seems very popular in Thailand so I figure that re-possesion must be pretty common also, is there some giant auction house for repo vechicles?

If anyone could point me in the right direction for the best value for money it would be most appriciated.

Do not know about the reliability issue anymore with Toyota BUT Toyota is number one in Thailand for sales and resales. D Max comes in number two for trucks and Hondo number 2 for cars. Everybody else is fighting it out for number 4, 5, 6.

If you plan on keeping it then you could get a decent Navara 2nd hand as the resale here isn't great.

I have a isuzu d max 2005 slx 4 door which has done me great however i will be changing it shortly and buying a 4 door vigo prerunner as i think they are good value for money new.

The prices of vehicles are coming down as my friend asked for trade in price on his vigo 4x2 prerunner 3 litre,1 year old and 20000kms on the clock and they said they would give 500000. He paid over 800,000 with extras.

300.000 loss in a year.

I guess there are so many used vehicles for sale now.

Happy hunting

I think Prerunner is a 4 door Pick, so Thails not really buy 4 D Picks, because they are high on roedtaxes and to sell it to a foreigner it have to be automatic.

Anyway Picks are all the same 4 banger diesels. Depend what you need 4 door or 2 door. Buy Ford or Nissan, yes resalevalue is lesser, but you BUY it cheaper. Ford is mp probs as the truck acdtually is a Mazda, so it's japanese as well.

You do know they are built here at AAT, not a lot of Japanese content in them.

Almost all Japanese cars are built locally. I also never understand why peaple menteion to "buy japanese cars", for the reason, because it's easy for parts. It is not! If you have a "real" japaese car, like a Honda Legend (i have before), you'll don't get any parts ovewrhere and i needed a auto tranny at that time. Couldn't find nothing and i can't speak japaese to order from Japan.

But for the Picks, don't matter what you buy, it's all locally made. In my opinion better to buy a 2007 Ford Ranger than a 2002 Toyota for tha same price. Ford is lower on resale, but you bu it cheaper and Toyota is the first target for thefts!

Cheapest Nissan Navara extracab 6 speed manual brandnew at 589.000 baht.Deduct 20.000 baht discount which you will get if you can talk a bit that makes it 569.000 Baht with free 1 year all risk insurrance, all the extra's you will need and 3 year warranty.

Why buy someone else problems?
