Hi, I currently have a work permit for one employer. I have found a new job that will start in 2-3 weeks and therefore require a new work permit.

If I understand correctly I am current on a non-b visa with extension of stay (?). Basically, the standard visa arrangements that most people working here are on. I also have a multiple entry permit.

So what do I need to do? My employer will no doubt advise me but I have been up a sh!t creek without a paddle before after being advised by an employer that didn't know what they were talking about, so I thought I would ask the knowledgeable folks on here.

It appears I have to get my current employer to cancel my work permit. Then I take a trip (with my contract and letter from employer etc) to the Thai embassy in Vientiane to renew my non-b. Then I come back and my new employer applies for a work permit.

Is the above assumption correct?

How long do I have in Thailand once my existing work permit is cancelled?

What happens to my existing multiple re-entry permits?

Thanks in advance

Your extension of stay ends the day your work ends and you have to report to Immigration with paper from former employer to cancel. You can then leave or pay for a 7 day extension of stay to pack out.

If both jobs same area and both willing there is a way to avoid exit - add second employer to work permit and then remove first but just getting a new visa and starting over may be less stress.

Your re-entry permit is history - as is your extension of stay - by getting new visa entry.

Hopefully someone who has recently done this will provide a play-by-play?

In regards to both jobs being in the same area, both are in Bangkok - does that count? I would prefer to not have to do the whole Vientiane trip... again.

Pay for another 7 days overstay, the whole system is laughably rigged with loop holes to get more money from you isn't it.

Thanks for the info.
