Hello

I am from France and now living in Bangkok and I have a 30 days tourist visa that I got at the airport when I came here.

My wife is working as a teacher here, she is Japanese.

My visa will expire in two weeks. I want to change my 3o days tourist visa into a non-immigrant O visa. I know the paper I have to submit.

Do I have to get out off the country? If yes, what is the best destination to do so? How long does the process take.

Thank you for your answers and help.

Does your wife have a work permit and 1 year extension of stay based on employment? If she does then you can get a dependent extension of stay from immigration. You would need a non-immigrant "O" visa to apply. With your current 30 day visa exempt entry, you would need 21 days remaining on your stay to change/convert into a non-immigrant "O" visa, immigration permitting.

Agree with the above except that that for a dependent's extension you will need to start the process for extension of stay from Non-O visa - the conversion process is not an option and in any event do not have enough time. Obtain single entry Non-O visa from neighbouring consulate against show of marriage certificate and wife's extension of stay, and then apply for own extension of stay during the last 30 days of your new permission to stay.

My wife is Thai, I have the multiple entry o based on registered marriage. Soon to apply for marriage extension. Once that is granted, can my son get a dependent visa from my visa? He is not a minor.

How old is your son?

If more than age 20 he would not qualify. He likely would be issued a non immigrant O visa to visit however.
