Are there any direct buses from Khon Kaen (or maybe from Nong Khai via Khon Kaen) to Suvarnabhumi airport? If yes, what time do they leave?

Yes, there is.

The Stae bus company runs a bus from Nong Khai-Udon Thani-Khon Kaen-Korat to the airport.

Departure time from Khon Kaen around 22:00

Tickets available from the Khon Kaen airco bus station...in the evening, ticket window 1 in that bus station.

Arrival in Suvarnibhumi around 5-6 in the morning.

Price around 400 baht, including some food tickets valid in Korat.

21:00. In the past, I have been able to get a ticket for this bus at the last minute. Of course, that would not be a good idea close to a Thai holiday.

It leaves from the transportation center. Take a free shuttle bus there from the airport.

I don't know if this is the same bus referred to above. But on the ground floor of Suwannphum Airport in the vicinity of Exits 7 & 8, there is a counter with signs posted indicating departure times and fares for bus(es) to Khorat, Khon Kaen, Udon Thani and Nong Khai. I am not presently at the airport, so am going from memory on this, and I have never used this service myself. Departure time is around 10:00 p.m. (except maybe Khorat ?) with arrival the next morning.
