Instead of starting your flights out of Toronto

You might want to consider driving / bus / train

to Buffalo Detroit Chicago or New York.

Then book flights out of one of those cities

using kayak expedia or similar site

Or try jet blue to west coast of USA then book

return flight from there

Good luck

And since your trip is approx 6 months, make sure you keep it to 6 months or less. If you go over by a day, most airlines charge a substantially higher fee. No logical reason for it, but they do.

LuckyLew is correct.

Check US large cities nearby Toronto for departures.

Detroit: is Delta hub (previous NWA): daily flight to Bangkok, one stop in Narita Japan

Chicago: is UA hub; daily flight to Bangkok, on stop in Narita Japan

NYC: is virtually all airlines destin for international cities; (rates could be to your favor)

Minneapolis: Delta hub (previous NWA) daily flight to Bangkok, one stop in Narita Japan

* besides US carriers, you should definitely check the Asian carriers on pricing such as EVA, China,Korean,ANA,

from the major US cities such as NYC and Chicago.

Avoid air Canada, high prices, bad service. I agree departures from us cities are often cheaper, now the Canadian dollar is on par with us dollar so even more savings.
