Hi all,

Last fall I considered moving abroad but the two job possibilities did not work out. The main reason related to the employers being private families as opposed to a consultant or group of families. It was challenging to find suitable job hours and salary. Recently I began searching for another opportunity abroad. I thought it may work out to find a group of families to share the expense of an ABA therapist and allow me to have full time hours.

Bangkok was one of the locations I was considering. I can only imagine the huge need for services for autistic children abroad but have had difficulty connecting with families seeking an ABA therapist. Does anyone have any advice, ideas, or contacts for me?

I'm a native English speaking American.

I appreciate any help. Thanks for your time.

Take care,

Megan McCliment

There are a couple of sp. ed schools in bangkok, one is called Acorn or something like that, forgot what the other is called. On a sad note, the state of sp. ed in Thailand is very poor, there is no accountability and from my experience a lack of professionalism with regard to pschologists who do work in this field. An IEP is not a legal document in Thailand. Good luck!

We have come across your post in the forum and were wondering if you would be interested in exploring a potential oppurtunity here in Bangkok. We are a professional consulting firm that provides specialised consultants/therapists to work with children associated with Autism.

We have been based in Bangkok and most of SE Asia since 1975 and are a rapidly growing organization. We have about 250 consultants working with us on a FT/PT basis.

Hi all,

I'm sorry for such a late response, I did not check the forum. I will consider any oppportunity available. As far as resources I have not found many in Thailand and would recommend finding therapists or at least some kind of consultant to help you determine what is best for your child and assist in setting up a home program.

Best, Megan

I'm a psychologist(licensed by California Board of Psychology, USA) with a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology and extensive experience working with children with autism and families using the DIR/Floortime Model (I have 5-year experience with ABA but have moved away from that model for several years now, by choice). I provide in-home therapy as well as family consultation. However, my fees are quite high. Please e-mail me if you are interested. In fact, email me regardless. I do have information and resources that will be useful to you.
