May 12, 201016 yr Please forgive my "low-tech-ness" (i.e. ignorance) but I have a Micro-SD card, which is the smallest version Card(smaller than standard or mini SD) made. It's 2 GB and is primarily used in cellphones for memory storage or music/video players to increase the storage capacity of the player /device. Some micro-SD cards come with "adapters" which are basically a full-size SD shell that accepts the micro-SD and then it can fit into most slots on PC's. My problem : I had transferred some files to the card (while in the music player--I did not get an adapter) and now when I go to delete them I am told it's "write protected" and I need to remove that in order to delete files. This is clear, BUT--unlike my other standard SD cards, this micro-SD does not seem to have ANY "switch" or mechanical lever to move forward/backward, to "lock" it, making it write protected! Is it possible the lever has broken off, or am I just being ignorant here? The card does have a notch in the side but there is NO sign of ANY moving parts like a standard-sized SD Card. I live in Pattaya, should I just go to Tukcom Center..?? Feeling a bit embarrassed here....would appreciate any ideas or assistance! HB
May 12, 201016 yr I guess we learn something everyday. I took a look at a Micro SD adapter and it indeed has a lock on it. I have never used the lock and have no idea how it works. I would guess you will have to borrow an adapter to unlock the card.
May 13, 201016 yr Could it be that the R (Read Only) attribute has been set on the file(s)? If so, use windows explorer to uncheck the R attribute.

Can you PLEASE look carefully at the micro-SD (ONLY) to confirm if there is indeed any type of mechanical latch on it--similar to the one on the adapter..??? This will assist me in knowing if the Micro-SD has it's own locking mechanism, or if it must be locked/unlocked while "inside" the adapter card. Thanks again! Edited May 14, 201016 yr by Harley62

There is nothing on the Micro SD chip itself. The unlock slide lever is only on the adapter. Added - I locked the adapter and and used my reader to try to change the files. I was not able to change anything. I removed the Micro SD chip from the adapter, put it in the reader and found it was NOT locked and I was able to manipulate the files. Are you using a read/write device or just the device that uses the chip? Edited May 15, 201016 yr by Gary A

Are you using a read/write device or just the device that uses the chip? The Micro SD card is always inside my MP3 player, which fits directly into the USB port on my laptop. so in essence it "becomes" the read/write device when I add/delete files by dragging them from the HDD on the laptop to the MP3 player....it may be a setting on the MP3 player itself that I have inadvertently "locked", but as I have transferred files before without incident I am stumped as to why now it's not working...hmmmm
May 15, 201016 yr Hi Wow that is a strange one, so if there is an unlock feature on the adapter i can only guess that this lock/unlock is controlled by the interface to the mini card. all i can suggest is give the contact pads a clean on both the card and the device it goes into and give it a shot. I get issues with corrosion quiet often and it catches ya off-guard sometimes Cheers
