So that they are facing the oncoming traffic.

I think that answers all the relevant questions posted so far on this thread.

Why do you walk on the right?

Why do you walk on the left?

I think Thais drive on the left so that the traffic going in opposite directions is on opposite sides of the road. Same reason as the Americans drive on the right.

Which is the arrow that indicates old pedestrian woman carrying shopping bags should amble whilst zig zagging across the whole pavement like M. Schumacher stopping Jensen Button passing :)

Honestly, passing some of these old woman on the pavements is like sh1tting going backwards!

Driving left or right doesn't matter...just press that red flashing button on the dashboard that means driving or reversing the wrong way is okay on any 3 lane highway...

The answer is "YES" :)

The question isn't, "Why do motorcycle drivers ride down the wrong side of the highway?" I can sort of kind of figure out that they're trying to take a shortcut. What I want to know is, "When they drive down the wrong side of the highway, and I'm riding my bike on the correct side, why do they ride down the wrong side of the wrong side of the highway and make me ride down the wrong side of the right side of the highway?"

Since the vast majority of people in this world are right handed and since Bangkok has many walkovers, SkyTrain steps, Mall flights and other pedestrian ups and downs, all of which offer helping handrails, it is a lot more convenient to walk to the right. I suspect that in even right/drive nations people will still walk to the right in places where hand rails are present.

Are you serious! there is no walk on the left or right; that is for amateurs. The correct way to walk is extremely slowly while wandering randomly and stopping in the most strategic places so you can impede anyone attempting to walk in a straight line. Once you have learned how to walk like a Thai, you will finally be able to make it through the mall without feeling like the world has slipped into slow motion.

It is the Thai's way of rebelion for going onlong with the British wrong side of the wrong driving. That is why pedestrians choose to walk on the right side of the sidewalk and use the right side escalator.

Who cares why they do this. I just ignore the ridiculous concept & walk on the left...unless I'm walking on a 'soft shoulder', in which case, I always walk against the flow of traffic.

Why do Thai's pick their nose in public ?

May I add to this?

Why do Thai's pick their nose in public, but then insist I should not blow my nose into a tissue at the dinner table when my nose is dripping from the chilis?

:D .....Dont use the tissue then, just blow your nose like the footballers do, close one nostril and blow through the other....repeat the process all over the dinner table.... :D That will really upset them..

This nose picking thing is really quite distressing, One sees a stunning looking Thai lady from a far, on walking past her, noting she has her finger buried in her snout up to the first knuckle while talking on the telephone... :)

The worst one for me is standing in a shop talking to the shop assistant, and they stand in front of you and while talking..off it goes... finger buried in the snout...

Granted we all pick our nose's at some point, but surely people here could be little more discreet

Why are there ANY signs? In Thailand I've never seen one that wasn't ignored more times than it was obeyed. But, it does seem to have its own sense of rhythm and everything seems to flow along like water finding the lowest point.

The arrows on the pavement in that picture aren't for the convenience of pedestrians.

They're for the motocy riders that drive down the pavements so they don't crash into each other.
