I need to convert a bunch of photos of food and kitchen equipment to line drawings. I have read manuals and tutorials but have not had much success. Anyone familiar with the process.

I have installed a package called Xara Extreme (this package has a Bitmap Tracer function). You can find it probably as xaraxl in your repo list. I not believe you can actually convert bitmaps to vector with Gimp...

You can do it with a "Script-<deleted>". This is explained on the link below.
