Troops in 2 military trucks and nine vans were deployed to the Wireless Intersection at 1:30 pm.

Gunfire was heard in the area now and then.

CRES orders BMA not to deploy water trucks and garbage trucks into protest zone

The Centre for Resolution of Emergency Situation Friday issued an urgent order at noon, prohibiting the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration from deploying water trucks and garbage trucks to serve protesters at Rajprasong.

Deputy BMA Governor Pornthep Tejapaibul said the CRES reasoned that the protesters might seize the vehicles and set fire to them.

Pornthep said the BMA could not retrieve seven mobile toilet trucks from the protest zone.

BTS to stop all services at 4 pm

The Bangkok Transit System announced that all of its skytrain services will be stopped at 4 pm.

The announcement was posted at their stations.

@markmackinnon: A colleague in Bangkok's Red zone says a helicopter just flew over, dropping unknown objects into the crowd.

Reuters denied their reporters or photograhers have been shot during the clash.

Troops manage to set up barricade at Rajprarop

Troops set up a barricade at the Rajprarop Road Friday afternoon, completing the operation to lay siege around the Rajprasong protest zone.

Rajprarop was the last directio that troops needed to secure before completely blocking Rajprasong protesters.

Protesters tried but failed to prevent troops from setting up the barricade at the Rajprarop near Indra Hotel.

Subway services to stop at 5 pm

The Mass Rapid Transit Authority announced that all subway services will stop at 5 pm.

The MRTA announced that its service from Hua Lampong to Phetchaburi has already been stopped and only service from Rama IX station to Bang Sue station is still available but all services will be completely stopped at 5 pm.

Gunfires Heard on Ratchaprarop Road, Protesters Fall Back

Conflicts continue to escalate between soldiers and red-shirt protesters at Ratchaprarop intersection with sound of gunfires heard periodically. Soldiers and protesters have taken cover in nearby buildings. A number of red-shirt protesters have fallen back from Ratchaprarop intersection, running towards Pathunam and further down Ratchaprarop Road.

Soldiers Form L-Shaped Checkpoint on Wireless Rd

Soldiers have formed an L-shaped checkpoint on Wireless Road and have closed off the road totally in a bid to clampdown on the red-shirt protesters.

They are looking to close the Samyan Road and the Bonkai intersection on Rama IV Road to contain the protesters.

Thaksin calls on govt to urgently hold talk with protesters

Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra Friday issued a statement, urging the government to hold a talk with the protest leaders to end the violence.

He issued the statement via Noppadol Pattama, his former legal advisor.

Thaksin said the government had violated human rights and law by ordering the troops to crack down on the protesters.

Thaksin demanded Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to immediately carry out four things:

1) The government must stop deploying troops and police with lethal weapons to suppress on protesters.

2) The government must immediately lift the state of emergency in all provices.

3) The government must hold a talk with protest leaders immediately to find a political solution.

4) The government must hold talks with all groups in the society to try to bring about reconciliation so that the country will have genuine democracy and justice and can progress.

Canadian journalist injured

A Canadian journalist with the France 24 television channel was shot and injured Friday, AFP reported.

The journalist was shot in the leg while covering the clashes near the Suan Lum Night Bazaar.

Troops clashed with protesters at the Rajprarop security checkpoint Friday afternoon.

Protesters tried to ambush troops at the Rajprarop barricade at 2:15 pm, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

The sounds of gunfire prompted reporters and photographers to run for cover around building corners.

Man killed at Bonkai Intersection clash site

A man was shot and killed at the Bonkai Intersection where protesters clashed with troops.

The man was identified as Intaeng Theswong, 33.

He was shot at his right chest and was rushed to the Kluaynam Thai Hospital.

Schools around Protest Site to Open on June 1

The Education Ministry has ordered schools around the red-shirt rally sites to postpone their opening from May 17 to June 1.

Schools in other areas should open as scheduled on May 17.

Red-shirt Protesters Take Saladaeng Intersection

Red-shirt protesters have taken the Saladaeng intersection from the authorities in another skirmish.

The injured are being brought out of the area by rescue officials.

Members of the press were said to have been trapped between the authorities and the protesters but there have been no reports of injuries yet.

THE NATION: The real hard part is what to do with innocent protesters once all hardcores are neutralized.

THE NATION: Govt has less than 1 hr 2 finish their operation to regain Lumpini area. The plan is that the military operation must suspend at dusk.
