You just know some stupid organization has a fireworks show scheduled for tonight that they've forgotten to call off. I love it when that happens in the middle of an armed civil insurrection.

Am utterly appalled at the reds. They had such sympathy a month and a half ago, now they are just a bunch of criminals working for their master Thaksin to the detriment of the entire nation. Disgusting.

OK. However, I can't understand any civilized person having any sympathy for them at all after Pattaya Asean and Black Songkran.

So, you can't understand half of the population. That is not surprising. I've met Red-supporters, rich and poor and middle class, actually I've known many for years. They are good people who, frightening to some, support greater democracy and less military intervention in Thai politics. I've met a few Yellows too and some are also good people. The most rabid yellows seem to be the farangs who are unnecessarily afraid of being lifted off their pedestal.

There's a very good article by Suranand Vejjajiva today in the other newspaper which clearly shows how Thailand has reached the point it is at.

You are not a very respectful guest here. You obviously would like to tell the Thais how to run their country. That's pretty arrogant of you. Why not go home? Maybe no one their respects you?

Will you get over the guest crap.

We live in Thailand. We support Thai families. We have Thai friends. We pay Thai taxes. We work with Thais. We employ Thais.

We are not guests.

100% agree, I have spent more than half my life in Thailand and have family here wife and children, many investments & employ quite a few Thai people. I feel it affects many in the same situation as me.. I can't comment on political views of the Thai's but i can have an opinion on the situation.

All be it i am neither pro Red or anti Red.

I just want the loss of life to end, this madness cannot continue or it will be a very bad downward spiral for everyone here Thai and Farang.

Soon we will have UDD protesters in every part of Thailand, not only Ratchaprasong and Silom.

By protesters do you mean armed insurgents?

for james spitman

from Timekeeperpedia

i am sorry but i suspect you to have Red Head Syndrome

this syndrome manifests itself by aggressively, demeaning anyone who dares to speak badly of a red shirt supporter

it can be cured by a short posting holiday from Thai Visa to give you some time to practice courtesy to other posters

i am sure you have probably had one period of enforced rehab before, but multiple doses are often required for serious sufferers

sadly for some, red head syndrome can be a terminal disease

its predicted by experts in the country where it was first detected that there will be many deaths before it completely eradicated

its rumored a reclusive, meglomaniac, billionaire has isolated the cure for this serious psychosis but refuses to administer it for free for the benefit of the sufferers.

he expects to come to the country of its origin and make more billions from exploiting this red syndrome phenomenon

although the authorities would like access to a swift and painless cure for the sufferer's, they are reluctant to accept this billionaires extreme terms and conditions for the release of the cure to the infected masses

consequently they continue to work tirelessly to try stop this virus spreading any further and to try to contain it to one single area of contamination in the centre of Bangkok

government agencies currently have this area surrounded and is monitoring the inhabitants activities

its become apparent that one major symptom of the syndrome is the fear of being in enclosed spaces

some badly infected individuals have been trying to break out of this isolation area and have reacted violently towards their guards

its feared that some of the inhabitants of this isolation area will succomb to the violent effects that this syndrome can create within the host

for these sad individuals there can be no cure.

Lets be very careful about our choice of words. There is a difference between a lie and misinformation.

It may not be a big difference, but it is a difference which will determine if you and your post stays.

Sorry but in between all the debating, did I read a post about a sniper trying to take out jutaporn on stage???

I know what you mean.

Something was said a few pages back about that, but no follow-up. A bomb was reported to have blown up on stage injuring many and possibly a death.

Perhaps you can explain why the last 4 elections have been red majorities then ??

It took a disbanding of the TRT, banning of its representatives, and a lot of backroom dealing and turn coats to make the coalition..

Wonder if the Democrats will be barred from the next election because of their illegal contributions ???

VOTE BUYING ! duh!

Seriously? 20 million votes bought? You don't think Thais take money from both sides and then vote for whoever they want?

Nope as there are reports that village heads have ways of monitoring compliance with the vote payments, with extremely negative consequences for those not conforming.

Give your source.

Last election, reds got the most votes but NOT EVEN CLOSE to a majority. Next ... Red apologists, please use facts if you have them rather than lies.

OK so for the last 4 elections reds have got the most votes..

Happy now ??

Sure, except that it is false again... Democrats had more votes than PPP in the last election.

Do not tell me you believe that BS? :)

Thais don't impress me as a people who pay money not expecting to get what they pay for.

Apparently so.

Some kind of shot rang out. He collapsed. He doesn't appear to have been hit. Since then, some kind of bomb has apparently gone off on or near the stage.

Classic stuff :)

Classic because it could be true, realistically believable :D

And how much contribute farangs living outside Thailand with money send to wife or girlfriends family in Thailand or do business with thai companies

The original comment was, 'tourism props up the thai economy'. I am sorry, but no matter how much you try to argue the case, present figures show 'tourism' as about 6% of thai GDP. Even factoring all that other stuff in, even if you quadrupled it, there is some serious industry inside this courtry that will always account for more than tourism. Im not making this up as I go along, anybody that thinks thailand only exists because of tourism needs a reality check.

Hm, guests we are?

Well, quite a few "guests" have been invited to Thailand as advisers in governmental institutions - suggesting to the Thais how to work more efficiently/effectively. Hey, and some get even paid! What a surprise. Guests paid by Thai govt for an opinion - amazing Thailand.

With that in mind, it is understandable that so many guests train their opinion-expressing skills in this forum. :)

Maybe I should go to local Amphoe and ask them to issue a guest card for me... in addition to the Tabien Baan entry.

What's your point? The advisors are just that. They have been invited. They are guests. Where did you get your expertise? Are you claiming that you opinions have a confidence level equivalent to a paid advisor? Were you invited to advise? Let's face it. It's an ego trip for you. You get to rant and rave on your keyboard and nobody knows who you are. Powerful!

I will advise you that a Tabien Baan entry is not a Thai ID or passport. You have a guest stamp. It's called a visa.

Its about meeting percentages and as votes are now counted locally again it is easy. Village A gets so much and then if it meets the 60% or whatever it is for the candidate then they get the other half or three quarters. If they dont then..... Those suspected or fessing up are not popular

I concur. They, the village heads, know which party one has voted for and the people suffer the consequences. This happened to my wife's family.

"The soldiers just opened up on everyone. Old people, women, ambulance crews."

This a tweet from Time journalist Andrew Marshall on the scene now.

http://twitter.com/Journotopia

This is misleading as it suggests that this is what Andrew Marshall said himself. This is a quote from "a Ruamkatanyu source in the crowd". Why is the "source" in the crowd? The "source" wouldn't happen to be a redshirt, would he? We know we can believe everything they say. :)

I know it's possibly true, maybe even probably true, but if someone is in a crowd of women and children shooting at you, what would you do? I'd shoot back (if I couldn't run away).

This is the kind of thing the Provisional IRA did. Hide a bomb in a baby's pram so it wouldn't be searched. Scumbags.

I've said it before and now I'll say it again. The old people, women and children (and everyone else for that matter) should be at home.

Back to square one. Puppet master Thaksin is calling the shots now. Openly and clearly. Cat is out of the bag, reds. This is ALL about Thaksin.

Strangely enough, Thaksin seems to be the sole voice of common sense !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He is the only one saying that the fighting should stop and lets get back to the negotiation table.

Abhisit is just as bad as the bloodthirsty westerners on this forum who are openly supporting and salivating over a violent crackdown.

I once thought Abhisit was a decent human being but I cant believe he has made such stupid decisions, this guy will go down in history

as one of the most idiodic thai PMs ever.

INN: Attack on Ratchprasong stage, more than 10 injured, 3 more deaths reported bringing day's death toll to 4 /via @TAN_Network

bangkokpundit: ThaiPBS report on who might have shot Seh Daeng. .308 bullet, specialized sniper rifle. Suspicion that revenge for killing of Col. on Apr 10

Yea, could have been revenge shooting, but from Occam's Razor perspective: The most likely reason Seh Daeng was shot was because he was the #1 antagonist for the Reds. The #1 person who was riling up all the Red rowdies to do as much damage as possible - to gov't security troops. It was a smart tactic to take him out at the beginning of the most recent battle. Of course, it would have been a lot smarter to have kept him and his buddies in custody, when he was arrested just days before the rallies started. Yet, we can thank Thai cops for patting him on the back, grinning, and letting him go, even though he was a wanted man at that time. Ironically, Seh Daeng would be alive today if that had happened. Instead, he, more than any other person (except Thaksin) is responsible for the dire situation in Bkk, and the deaths and injuries that are going on as I type.

Indeed, but however strongly you feel about Thailand and Thai people, you're still a guest.

And see it on the positive side, you have the possibility to leave Thailand, with your family, if Thailand goes the way of some countries in the region.

And being in the same situation as yours, I hope they won't.

But it does not make me blind...

I am appalled!!!, all you BS Red Apologist that want to talk about your bullsh*t peaceful Reds, I just watched on Thai TV a group of these peaceful people pull a young army boy from a army truck. The soldier was hands up gesturing for them to take the truck. Then one of the peaceful asses hit hit then another shot him. He WAS unarmed and only driving a truck.

One of the old sayings from when I was in Viet Nam, was kill them all and let god sort them out. After seeing just how inhuman these mop, criminals are It was the first thing that came in my head. They deserve NOTHING. :)

Especially all those red women and children... and let's not forget the elderly that are there as well. They should be the first ones gunned down right? :)
They are human shields used the same way Al Queda uses similar people. You can't blame the government for that.

So it would be acceptable if they were caught in the crossfire then? Of course not you fool, just sit back from the keyboard for a minute and think about what you're typing. Innocent peoples lives are at stake, it's not some video game.

They are quite welcome to leave, to avoid being shot along side the violent thugs.
