Interesting arguments - Iraq a democracy - on paper may be, in reality a country entrenched in anarchy with bombs going off daily and dozens of people killed daly ... everybody lives in total terror - something to really look forward too .... to use the words Bush and brilliant in one sentence is an oxymoron if there ever was one - however, to go deeper into this would be off subject.

Thailand can not give amnesty to criminals like the red leaders or any of the reds who have committed crimes which in reality is all of them, simple as that. An amnesty would give the wrong message to any wannabe revolutionary and his followers, come to Bangkok loot and riot and in the end we are going to get off scott free.

This has nothing what so ever to do with being blood thirsty - I would be absolutely delighted if the reds would pack up their <deleted> today and leave, but there are people who will have to go to jail or it would be an open invitation to anarchy, like in Iraq which you quoted yourself unwisely.

What to do now? Actually very easy, strip of Thaksin his Thai Citizen ship, because he now is an Montenegro Citizen, and size all his and family assets within Thailand and pay the damage done by him and his Red Terrorists. And do the same with all the rich Gangsters who have financed THAKSINS RED TERRORISTS that would give a clear message. Amnesty to whom? Yeah to the Kids who where dragged in to the criminal action by their parents.

No matter what, when that is over then Thailand will become a new face and hopefully not as to now a country full with FACE GOHOCK and the wisest action to do is to Name it back Siam, and then include all the People in to build a better future, even does who till today have to be living without Identity even if they and there ancestors where living for centuries in this Country.

All corners of life have to change and build a future.

The way with weapons, bombs and guns are just the matter of the stupid, corrupted and dirty ones, Red ones go home, you have lost through your action, the message for your cause.

What nonsense. You'll see more of this desperation from reds as their position rapidly deteriorates.

Meanwhile..

The prime minister has the backing of coalition partners in the use of force to quell violence, Chart Thai Pattana Party leader Chumpol Silapa-archa said on Tuesday, dismissing the speculation about the coalition rift over how to rein in the red shirts.

"The government is on the right tract in trying to restore normalcy because the state power must be imposed over the rioting protesters," he said.

Um, that first video doesn't show the protester being shot at, even though he lobbed a pingpong bomb at them. If the sound of firing was the soldiers firing at him, he wouldn't have walked away so casually.

To give amnesty to the leaders, is to create a future where these monsters are allowed to play in the government. That cannot be allowed.

the maoist "monsters" of '76 and the sunni "monsters" of 2004-6 were given amnesty and conditions in both these very different countries improved stunningly. amnesty is the last, best hope.

with respect to the video and your comment that the Red wasnt being shot at, unfortunately the video doesnt show a wall to my left and in front of the Red protecting him after he pulled back from lobbing the grenade. that scene took place on rama 4 and anybody who exposed any part of their body to the soldiers was shot at.

the pool of blood in the other video is from a resident who minutes earlier made that mistake.

anmensty is not a matter of IF, only WHEN and HOW MANY MORE DEAD?

Earthpig what is wrong you , by granting amnesty is giving the green light for it to happen again ." NO AMNESTY EARTHPIG " back in your sty.

If I was optimistic, I may say that this whole thing could turn out to be a blessing in disguise. By their actions Thaksin, Miss piggy .. er sorry Chavalit and all those chaps having their accounts blocked and a few more, may once and for all be kicked out of Thai politics and end up in jail for along time.

Abhisit is like a breath of fresh air in Thai politics and the best thing that ever happened to this country, a clean politician with his country in mind, not how to stuff his pockets as full and as quickly as possible.

Now, if only the "normal" red would realize that they are sawing at the branch that actually supports them and has many reforms planned and already in place, they'd all go home and let the army deal with the criminals accordingly. However, I daubed this is going to happen, but the government has to act now and any death's and injuries that will occur should be added to those manipulators indictments

earthpig wants to grant amnesty for this, and even 12 year olds burning your house down, and shooting troops then stealing their guns, snipers from red shirts and firing of M79's on troops unprovoked.

the good news is earthpig is full of it, and the other good thing is its not up to him. I wouldn't grant him amnesty fro that last ignorant comment!!!!!

Watched a CNN report this evening ...

...To call this journalism would be a joke - apparently the underdog makes more money. All Americans and Europeans are fed totally false news - I thnk the army should arrest the journalists and kick them out of the country

Yes, all mainstream news owned by the corporations like CNN, NBC, FOX NEWS, etc. and any of their sister or parent companies are ALL propaganda! They only want to push their own views on people.

I'd recommend everyone does themselves a favor and stops getting "news" from any of the mainstream networks. Use the Internet and find independent journalists and news websites.

If you think the reds are the victims and being persecuted look at these picturs

In my opinion, the reds mentality is completely money driven, and without care for any lives, be they innocent or not. They are also clearly not Buddhist people, who believe in peace, non-violence, amongst many other things that the red "army" is completely ignorant of. I am completely and utterly shocked and appauled by this whole thing and pray that this all ends peacefully and quickly.

Blessed be all who walk the earth and may their hearts be filled with love and peace for all.

Ms, you are misguided, poorly informed and full of misinformation. If that weren't enough you make assumptions about things that you do not and cannot know and you present them here as if they were fact. You attack you enemy's religious beliefs in an attempt to make yourself seem more virtuous than your enemy. Let me ask you this. If all Red Shirts are "Not Buddhist people" what would you call a Prime Minister who orders his Army snipers to shoot an unarmed Red Shirt leader giving an interview to the free press? Is that what Buddha would do?

According to Buddhist principles a Monk or a true Buddhist is allowed to kill if it is seen to be for the greater good.He accepts the Karma of course but the actions benefit many.Hence the current situation where the Monks are involved and the peaceful natured Thai people can still do what they are doing. This is only to be used as a last resort however and I think many have forgotten that there was a lot more measures that could have been enacted before violence was used.

A truly great advert.

It must have cost a bunch to get Adam Sandler to do it.

I like the last line in particular....Thailand,amazing for your life. (that is what I heard anyway).

Thank you

They have every chance to give themselves up - if they choose to fight, sorry, but than they accept that they may die but the country ca no longer allow for terrorist criminals to hold the capital and its people hostage - aaaa why do I bother ..... must be another red in disguise posting here - I noticed not many red comments here lately only calls for amnesty .... hmm

People in C M have posted that they spotted a number of Tuk Tuks flying the Thai and the Yello flag - IN CM ! - not a good sign for the reds

Perhaps a half dozen more incidents where the Reds are told by the locals to bugger off might get things going in the proper direction:

Among the smaller incidents reported from late on Monday, Channel 3 television reported that hundreds of red shirts had attempted to hold a protest at Ramkamhaneg University in the south of the city on Monday evening.

When students resisted and riot police intervened, the red shirts agreed to hold their rally outside the university.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100518/wl_nm/us_thailand_343

I see Ramkamhaeng University is continuing its long and proud tradition of telling the Thaksinistas to pack sand.

They did the same when then-TRT Party Spokesman and current Red Leader Jatuporn was embroiled in a very public row on campus where the students shouted him down for his offers of bribes to students to tow the TRT Party line.

For the barbarian posters here who prefer the spilling of thai blood to amnesty, you may wish to note that even the Nation is using the "A" word:

"The red-shirt tactics appear to have been lifted straight from the textbook for urban guerrilla warfare compiled by leftists and ex-communists after the October 1976 bloodshed. Thailand foiled the plan to bring guerrilla warfare from rural areas to the capital by granting amnesty to activists who fled after the bloodshed."

If thailand could put an end to communisty violence in the months after vietnam, if bush/cheney could so briliantly convince the sunni tribes to switch sides and thereby bring on the legitimate government and democracy we now see in Iraq, then Abhisit can, and MUST, announce a general amnesty.

For all.

Except Montenegrin citizens. Of course. To allow Thaksin's return would be the blunder of blunders. He is far too smart and far too evil. But the risk of further delay is that the gov's bargaining position will become so weak that this might happen.

AMNESTY NOW.

Before the Reds win.

are they anywhere close to winning now? is this what red victory looks like?

sadly so. worst case scenario the UN DID come in, that would be a bloodbath.

A report on channel 3 and channel 11 (Thai) says the army estimates the guns and wepaons belonging to the reds have been moved to the edges of the red zone, they're not inside so that the leaders can't be caught with them "red handed" and obviously the women and children can't/or won't shoot. they say there are too many "unknown" snipers in the distance between the soldiers and the red shirts. The report on free TV (channel 11) said it'll be deadly for troops to move in closer, as seen on video, thats where the reds with the guns are. Thats just their assessment, obviously no promises on what they'll do. (the report last night said the snipers near the "frontline" are not identified yet as whether belonging to yellow or some other faction, as they aim at both red shirts and soldiers) what do you make of that?

precarious situation with no easy way out!

Ultimately the soldiers'll have to buckle down, get their own snipers in position, and take the red zone, otherwise eventually there'll be intervention!
