Where To Buy Shelving And Storage Furniture

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I have been looking around for cheap and cheerful plastic or metal furniture / wracking. Mainly looking for it for the store room a.k.a. maids room without a maid :)

Its just for storing stuff on - pots and pans, detergents, spare crockery, etc. Looking for something rubust and cheap - aesthetics not a problem.

We were in Mako a week or so back ad nothing seemed to stand-out there. Any suggestions or recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

The big HomeWorks here in Phuket has some very good storage shelves, boxes etc. Note that's the big warehouse-type place, not those little local shops. BKK probably has same.

Thanks for all the replies.

I had a look again yesterday at Makro and got some small stuff, but I'll cetainly go check the other places.

Can anyone advise where I would find good HomePro / Index stores?

Thanks again

You need to learn to use the internet.

If you are looking for the location of HomePro, open google... type "HomePro Thailand" or something similar and search. You will be given a list of all the appropriate web pages and the top one, one fairly near the top of the list will be the HomePro website which will have branch lists and very possibly maps of all their locations. Same applies to any other reputable companies.

You don't need Index or HomePro at all, you need to go to the end of your road and straight into the hardware store, you know, the grotty little one that looks too packed full to even enter the door! Then you can buy some metal rungs(cut to your specific size), some nuts, bolts & corner thingies... a few cans of spray paint and finally some ply wood - cut into correct sizes and you'll end up with this...

The large shelving unit cost a total of approx. B2000 and is rock-solid, I can hang off it and it doesn't move an inch - I had looked for sturdy storage for a while before I thought of this - I had previously looked in Mackro, HomePro & Index and everything was <deleted> quality and ridiculously over priced, one flimsy plastic shelving unit in Mackro, standing about half the height of the unit below was priced at B2450!! Seriously, DIY is the only way to go.

I even made this to add extra space to my desk from the leftovers

DIY out of the steel rods from your local Thai hardware store, who quite often will also cut them to length for you, for free. They should also have the metal angle braces and nuts and bolts to hold things together. Add a sheet of plywood, and there you be.
