Ron Posted May 23, 2010 Share Posted May 23, 2010 recently I was informed by Immigration that a so-called sick man visa was available for a 90 days period renewable for as long as one is being under treatment for a serious disease in Thailand. Now I am wondering if such a visa exists or what is the story? It seems to be as visiting Thai wife but indefinate renewable until passing away that could take years. Lite Beer Posted May 23, 2010 Share Posted May 23, 2010 From Police Order 2008. 2.25 In the case of medical treatment or convalescence or to look after a patient: Permission will be granted for a period of not more than 90 days at a time. (1) Confirmation and request has been made by a physician responsible for the treatment. The Physician must describe the details of treatment and advised that the illness is a barrier for travelling. Like General MacArthur said that 'Old soldiers never die they only fade away' Its the fading that I think about as it was added that a sick man would not be arrested without a visa at home hanging to the umbical cord of oxygen from 50 years smoking Thai cigarettes! [/quote To Siam legal, what happens after 90 days? What happens after 90 days? Can my stay be prolong indefinite? I have been in Thailand almost 20 years and have had all types of visas, tourist, non-o, marriage extension, and retirement. My last visa was a retirement visa. I have the cash but can't make it to BKK to have a new pension paper from my Embassy due to bad health. I am 70 yrs old now. Can you advise me a little? As long as he certifies you are under his direct care and cannot travel outside the Kingdom due to health reasons, you will be permitted to stay. If treatment ends or your doctor does not agree to continue signing extensions, then you will have to legitimately arrange a retirement or other long-stay visa. I don't think I will be able to travel at all due to heart and lung disease and hypertonia that is an increase pressue against the muscle and nerves and blood hypertension. I have been advised by the local police general and the Men and women of Thai Immigration that nobody is going to arrest me for any visa problem because they would inherit my wife's job of looking after me. Perhaps that is outside the law, but some consideration is there for my plight. Robby nz Posted May 31, 2010 Share Posted May 31, 2010 I would like to explore this subject farther: In my case I am here at present on a tourist visa and tomorrow will go to immigration for a 30 day extention. I had been here previously for 3 years on a O_A retirement but went back to NZ for 9 months and intend to go back again for 3 months in Dec, hence the tourist visa. later this week I go to hospital for a test to investigate something on my bladder and depending on the result may need an operation. If this is the case then I should be able to get an extention on medical grounds? Would this be automatically for 90 days or for a period specified by the Dr? Would the 90 days start when the application is made or at the end of my 30 day extention? Is there any special form to be filled out for this either by me or a Doctor? Mario2008 Posted May 31, 2010 Share Posted May 31, 2010 The doctor would need to sign a declaration that you are not able to travel (fly). Immigration can than give you a permission to stay for up to 90days, which can be extended if needed. So let the doctor indicate for how long you are not able to travel. The extension will cost 1,900 baht and starts from the date your current permission to stay ends. If you are under treatment at a private hospital, inquire if the hospital has liaison with immigration. If so, they will be able to take care of immigration for you.
