Opposition to grill PM, 5 ministers

BANGKOK (NNT) -- The opposition Puea Thai Party has submitted two separate censure motions against Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and five cabinet ministers.

The first motion, which is supported by 184 Puea Thai MPs, has been presented to House Speaker Chai Chidchob for a no-confidence debate against Prime Minister Abhisit, Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban, Interior Minister Chavarat Charnvirakul, Transport Minister Sophon Zarum, Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij and Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya.

According to the House Speaker, the examination process of the censure motion will take seven days and the government will then be asked to propose the exact dates for the censure debate.

Meanwhile, the second motion with names of 159 Puea Thai MPs has been handed by Opposition Chief Whip Witthaya Buranasiri to Senate Speaker Prasopsuk Boondej in seeking the deposition of Mr Abhisit, Mr Suthep, Mr Chavarat and Mr Sophon according to Section 270 of the constitution. Mr Korn and Mr Kasit are spared from this portion due to a lack of substantial evidence.
