Pharmacies In Phuket

Featured Replies

I'm travelling to Thailand soon and wondered if you could still buy prescription medicine from local pharmacies. Last time I was there I bought some diet pills, Duromine (phentermine), from a pharmacy in Phuket. I used to get them prescription when I was younger but doctors are less likely to prescribe them these days and I was hoping to buy some in Phuket to kick start my diet.

I was reading the thread "My Wife Is Too Fat" and wondered whether being in Thailand made it easier to access diet pills and why that wasn't considered? I am also too fat - not just plump.

Alternatively, if diet pills are more easily prescribed in Thailand, should I just see a doctor in Phuket and get some prescribed while over there? So much emphasis these days on gastric surgery for obesity when surely that is much riskier (and more expensive) than the old fashioned diet pills?

Thanks for any replies. I'm not a drug seeker but not sure how to ask such a delicate question without looking like one.

Signed,

GirlTooFat

OK, searched the forums and it might be illegal for pharmacies to sell prescription drugs.

Most of the threads suggest seeing a doctor at the hospital. How does that work? Can you just ask for a consultation with a hospital Dr? Walk in off the street to see a Dr? Are there differences between local medical clinics and hospital clinics ie can some drugs only be prescribed by hospital Dr? Only want to do it legally.

TBH, diet pills are a huge problem among Thai women, many guys don't realize how much their gf pop and the tremendous pressure in this country on Thai women to stay very thin. So, they pop diet pills. To be honest, you will probably find yourself losing weight when you get here -- just eat lots of stir fried veggies and try to be more active.

That said, if you still find you want to go the diet pill route after you arrive and see how you feel, then you can walk into any dr clinic without an appointment. just be sure to get a reputable doctor so that you don't screw your body up with drugs.

Thanks for the info.

I can't believe docs would give diet pills to those petite Thai girls!?!?!?!?

Doctor will not prescribe them to you , maybe they know some thing , like they damage your liver and kidneys.

Doctors not prescribing them to anyone in NZ, but they seem quick to offer gastric surgery which is potentially life threatening.

Diet and exercise are the key, of course, but a helping hand wouldn't go amiss. Being fat is more damaging to liver and kidneys than a short course of drugs.
