It's interesting that of all the witness accounts from within the Wat, no one has actually seen soldiers shooting at them.

All of the "witness" reports that I have seen say "the shots came from a high point" and talk about there being soldiers on the BTS without saying that they saw soldiers shooting. But to be able to shoot from the BTS down into the Wat, and particularly, from some reports, down to the entrance of the Wat, the soldiers would have to be seen clearly over the top of the BTS wall.

And then you get to the main question: What would the army have to gain by shooting people in the wat?

Whereas, it's clear what the red shirts would gain by shooting people in the wat?

All in the temple could hear shots fired. Some immediately associate it with the army, some wonder and think it may be the, none went out to look as far as is known. Some were shot, but don't know by who. The situation is clear for most people: it's must have been those they don't like anyway.

Thaksin just gave a phone interview to Australian ABC Lateline program. See it here. Not many surprises, I am peaceful, dam_n the iron fisted government, poor civilians slaughtered by jackbooted government thugs blah blah.

Most cheeky, he acknowledges that the burning of Central World was planned in advance, but of course, not by the red shirts. Government set up you know.

I think that interview may come back to haunt Thaksin. He concedes the fires at CW were pre-meditated and then goes on to say they were set by the goverment. There have been anecdotal accounts of red shirts placing accelerants and throwing grenades in to set off the fire. I also believe due to its proximity to the red shirt stage that it would be very unlikely the government could get in their pre breakup of rally. I'm not sure but I think I read the fire either occured simultaneously with the dispersal or maybe evn started before. Anyone confirm?

What about extradition treaties? He might seek asylum based on that Thailand carries out the death penalty. Guess we'll wait and see.

Indeed, not any EU country will extradite somebody wen that person is risking a death penalty, Its against EU law.

But if the Thai court guarantee that there is no risk for a death sentence there is a great possibilty that they will extradite him.

Or he must ask political asylum.

BANGKOK, 18 June 2010 (NNT) - A lawyer of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has sought an appeal against the Criminal Court's recent issuance of an arrest warrant for his client over terrorism.

The appeal for the court’s nullification of the terrorism arrest warrant was filed by Mr Thanadet Puangpoon, lawyer representing Mr Thaksin, on Friday afternoon.

Puea Thai MPs Jatuporn Prompan and Suchart Lainamngern will be also summoned as witnesses during the trial.

The court accepted the lawyer’s appeal for consideration, and its final ruling whether to revoke the arrest warrant will be officially announced on 28 June 2010.

The court late last month issued the arrest warrant for Mr Thaksin as requested by the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) on grounds of violating the Emergency Decree and masterminding terrorist attacks.

The court has postponed the hearing for former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra's arrest warrant revocation case to July 5th, to give the Department of Special Investigation more time to gather additional evidence.

The Criminal Court has postponed the hearing for former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra's arrest warrant revocation case to July 5th, to comply with a request made by the Department of Special Investigation or the DSI for more time to gather additional evidence. The hearing has been scheduled for July 5th at 1:30 PM.

The court has explicitly ordered both sides to refrain from publicizing the details of the case, explaining that the case is still under deliberation and could be influenced by public opinion.

Also, as the court is still considering revoking the arrest warrant against the ousted premier, the DSI is now required to inform Thaksin's attorney before executing the warrant.

The Department of Special Investigation has submitted 25 names of red-shirt suspects to be charged with terrorism to the Attorney General Office.

The name of pro-red army specialist Major-General Kattiya Sawasdiphol was not included in the suspect list.

Former PM Thaksin Shinawatra has been accused of being a threat to national security.
