Paying Social Security Into Siam City Bank

Featured Replies

I pay my Thai social security by myself every month, every month I walk to the Bank and pay it in.

However, on many occasions I have been unable to pay it at Siam City Bank, as I am a foreigner, and

their Bank does not accept that foreigners pay SS. However, I can pay at the Bank down the road which

is Krungthai, or the Bank or Ayutthaya.

Am I the only foreigner who pays Social Security by himself?

Is this a type of Racism?

I have now written to the Bank to complain about this fact, insisting that they change their ways.

They are willing for us to Bank with them, willing for us to use their facilities and also willing to

change our money into Baht, but for us to pay Social Security seems to be beyond them.

Well I hope to get a reply from them soon.

Can you enlighten us a litlle more ? In 15 years of working here, for several different employers, I have never heard of a farang who was paying into Thai Social Security. This is just a guess, but as a minimum, wouldn't one have to have a Thai ID card (baht phrachachon) ?

As a Foreigner I pay Thai Social Security contributions, most workers here should be as well. I pay 432 baht per month, I pay it myself.

There are threads on TV about Social Security, I use it for a pension when I am older as well as my UK and Army pensions.

Your employer is supposed to pay your social security for you, as far as I am aware it is mandatory. I don't know about business owners though.

In our company employer pays half, employee pays half of social security. (Employer handles the actual paperwork and physical act of paying the bill)

I know that if you are Thai and have worked for a certain period of time (i think 1 year) and have been paying into social security then if you stop your job you can still continue to make the payments by yourself to stay in the plan...I'm assuming this is what has happened in the OPs case?

However i'm pretty surprised that you are able to do this as a foreigner...i certainly wouldn't pay into Thai social security...when it comes time to collect the officer could just say "Your a foreigner, your not covered"...what kind of security is that?

Plenty of insurance companies about offering health/life/retirement plans etc...

Beano, I think I'm using Krung Thai. Not positive as my wife does it for me. They let her pay for two months at a time.

They'll also do a automatic payment from your account, if you set it up that way.]

For those not up to date on this, if you're working for an employer that is required to pay into social security, you pay 5% of your salary up to a max of 750 per month. The employer pays a like amount.

Persons either not working, but in the system from prior employment, or working at a job not covered, such as employees at private schools, you can choose to stay in the system by paying yourself. It's 432 baht per month.

The OP is looking at the retirement benefits. I'm not as interested in that, but take advantage of the health coverage it offers.

Over they years, I've noticed that a lot of foreigners don't really understand what benefits are available to them through social security. I've often read, or heard people say,"If it's Thai, it can't be any good." I think they'd be surprised at what is actually available if they took the time to find out. As examples, see posts 4 and 5 above.

Beano, if you really need or want to use that bank, maybe soc sec would give you a note to give to them.
