Bankokians flock to test airport link service

BANGKOK (NNT) -- Many Thai people, mostly Bangkokians have flocked to test the airport link service from Phya Thai district to Suvarnabhumi airport on the first day of its trial operation on Tuesday.

Permanent Secretary for Transport, Supoj Saplom, said the airport link service would provide convenience for people travelling from the heart of the capital city to Suvarnabhumi International Airport as well as lessen road traffic.

Mr Supoj noted that the trains would be released every 20 minutes while their operation would be separated into two shifts, namely morning shift from 7.00 to 10.00 hrs and afternoon shift from 16.00 to 19.00 hrs every day. He said the test run would last for about two months.

The airport link service is now running from Phya Thai to Suvarnabhumi; however. Another two stations at Hua Mak and Ramkhamhaeng will be available very soon, the permanent secretary promised.

Regarding the fares, passengers using city-line trains (stop at eight stations) will be charged 15-45 THB while those using express ones (non-stop directly from Phya Thai to Suvarnabhumi) will be charged 150 THB a trip.

Opposition to publicize contents used in censure debate

BANGKOK (NNT) -- The opposition will publicize all the contents used in the ongoing censure debate to acknowledge facts on the operation of the government against the demonstration of the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD).

Opposition Chief Whip, Wittaya Buranasiri, announced that the presentation would be made in form of exhibitions after the end of the no-confidence debate accordingly because the government had impeded information regarding the opposition's presentation.

The opposition chief whip highlighted some hiccups in the television signal live broadcast of the National Broadcasting Services of Thailand (NBT) television station because people in some areas could not watch the live broadcast of the censure debate.

Mr Wittaya however declined to evaluate the operation of the opposition side for the debate on Monday. He believed that he would prefer the public to judge their performances, but he trusted that all MPs from the opposition had done their best.

Meanwhile, Government Chief Whip, Witthaya Kaewparadai, voiced no concerns over the censure debate so far because the government could explain all the allegations, and there were no new issues.

Upon frequent protests during the debate, the government chief whip deemed it a common issue, especially when Puea Thai MP and UDD Deputy Chairperson, Jatuporn Prompan, would start debating.

As for the exhibition of the opposition outside Parliament, Mr Witthaya said it could be done, and the government would be ready to clarify every issue. However, he warned that the government would prosecute all presentations of distorted facts, if found.

Police deny helping Arisman, hunt goes on

BANGKOK (NNT) -- Police have dismissed rumors that anti-government leader Arisman Pongruangrong made his escape with the authorities’ help, insisting that the search for the terrorism suspect has been ongoing.

Acting Police Chief Police General Pateep Tunprasert disclosed today that the police had been continuously tracking down the exact whereabouts of Mr Arisman, one of the core leaders of the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD). He believed that the suspect was still alive as reports of his appearances had been constantly received, but the arrest attempt had not been successful.

In addition, the police chief declined knowledge about Mr Arisman receiving assistance from police officers in his escape. He recommended any independent committee to be set up to probe the matter to operate on only factual information.

Mr Arisman, wanted for violating the Emergency Decree, has been on the run since the disbandment of the UDD rally at Ratchaprasong Junction on 19 May.
