Customs Duty When Visiting Thailand

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if Thai customs have the right to charge duty on personal items brought when visting Thailand for a holiday.

I am specifically thinking about a laptop computer and a digital camera. I have heard differeing views on this one. It seems to me that personal items are not taxable, but perhaps, knowing Thailand these days, I am wrong.

laptop computer and a digital camera, no worry just carry that in, no problem, i travel between country, maly, singa, hk, etc..., carrying those item all the time they never ask for anything

Of course then can charge duty. Only the first 10,000 baht worth of items you bring with you is not required to be declared. Computer/most cameras will take you well above that mark. But tomy is right that it should not be a problem as long as not packed as new and you know how to use them. That is why you hear various stories. Bring them. By law you should declare the computer on Customs form but expect few do. They know it is part of today's travel.

I regularly travel in and out of Thailand and always with my trusty notebook... At first I use to declare it on the form but always at the customs exit I was just waved thru... Now I do not bother and do not declare. Never a query.
