Do You Drink And Drive

I think 2 pints (of beer) are the limit but I'm not so sure on this.

My husband usually doesn't drink any alchol if he is going to drive. But occasionally, he will have a pint (beer) around an hour before we go home.

I've seen a Thai friend of mine drink some stupid amount before insisting on driving home. We tried to ask him to stay over at ours but he wasn't having any of it. In the end, he sneaked out and drove home anyway!! :o:D

30% of accidents in Oz involve alchohol, therefore 70% are caused by sober people

luv the stats :D

I'm just a hopeless driver in general - maybe with a few drinks in me I'd start using the side mirrors and manage to parallel park :oB)

Does anyone think that after a few beer theri judgement is impaired. I'll don't 4-5 pints and tootle off home quite happily.

When I'm pissed it's usually late at night so the traffic is not to bad.

I'd like to take a UK standard driving test with an instructor with 4 pints under my belt, and see how I fair as I reckon it does'nt affect me.

BOB; Most people do not think that they are impaired after a few,and you might make it thru an standard driving test, but most likely wreck a car in a defensive driving operational exam, where you are in real cars in real traffic situations,

Reaction time is diminished with the least bit of alcohol.

when I was in an alcohol recovery program,One of the people in it was an idiot[well maybe more than one] and he swore that he was a better driver when he was drunk than sober, coarse he also drank some dish washing liquid because he thought it was "SCOPE' mouthwash and put cigs out on his fore arm..

sure funny what booze does to brain cells.. :o

Drinking and driving: Every 20 mnts a drinking driver kills a person, an average of approximately 25000 a year. The drinking driver causes 50% of all vehicular fatalities in America more than any other group. Drinking and driving is the leading cause of death in 15 to 24 years olds our drivers are responsible for 44% of all traffic accidents drinking drivers are much more likely to be seriously injured and killed than non drinking drivers, new studies show that driving skills can become deficient at blood alcohol levels of only 0.05%. Alcohol depresses the nervous system and slows the normal aquision and processing of information making tasks which require divided attention such as steering accelerating and braking are extremely difficulty to perform without error. This leads to fatal accident and innocent people on the road will be killed for no fault. Alcohol and the work place Over 10% of employees have alcoholism or are problem drinkers costing the nation nearly 50 billion dollars each year including lost production and shady workmanship, Monday morning absenteeism, higher health care and Increase expenditure traffic accidents violent crimes and fire losses attribute to major economy loss.

More than 3,000,000 people are dependent on alcohol in the UK :o

Statistics, video-clips of alcohol-related accidents, good words? None of these will help.

Alcohol increases your imaginary capabilities and lowers your real ability.

(That is not only true for driving, guys!)

The dangers are, "nothing ever happened, it is a short way which I know well, I need the car tomorrow morning a.s.o.".

I watch myself very carefully, a slight change in the road pattern, e.g. a construction place that was not there before and my brain starts to work very hard to solve this problem, which, when sober, would be no problem.

Still, I admit, moreoften than not I take the car.

The only really effective deterrant is law enforcement. You are caught, your licence is gone, without licence your job is gone. It works in Europe and, I believe, in the USA, in Australia and... Small thing, in the past you had no problem in Taiwan, now you have night by night controls every 2 -3 km. Your licence is gone for 3 or 6 months, your car is on the road in daytime, the police checks up on you, who was driving. (This happened to my partner)

In Europe 20 years ago drunken driving was a gentleman's delict, one made jokes about it. Today, society looks at you as a criminal.

Above it all theoretical for Thailand. I might not leave my car at the pub next time.

Back in the UK, I drove drunk once in my youth which scared me so much I never did it again. I did drive after a few drinks a few times after that when I hadn't intended drinking at all and had the car with me, but if I knew I was going to be drinking I would leave the car at home.

Here in Thailand, I'll have 2 or 3 large Heinekens once a week and then get on my bike for the short trip home. By that time of night, there's very little traffic and I take a lot of care for those five minutes. I do notice the difference between riding after 2 bottles and riding after 3, though. I am certainly less capable after 3.

Yes I do!!If I stop for a few during the afternoon,I will drive the car home after 2-3 drinks! If I have the mind to go out drinking,I take the skytrain and Taxis. Many times the taxi drivers are more shitfaced than me.I don't know about the skytrain operator. If,I feel the least bit wacked,I hope that if I am driving,I will leave the car parked. It has not come up yet as I am always concious of my situation and try to be proactive in my thinking. If I am drinking at home,I never take the car.I never drink alcohol when taking a trip out of Bangkok.

Are you taking a survey? Why did you pose this question?

Best Regards,Stan

Drunk driving penalties will not stop the alcoholic from driving,no matter how stiff they are.

As the true drinker knows,,with a few drinks you think yourself invincible, very intelligent and above the law,if you think at all.

I have had 16 drunk driving arrests and the last time I had my license suspended for 5 years, when I had it taken and came out of court,I got in my pick up and went and got drunk, never stopped me at the least. The time before I had my license suspended for 3 years, I had got my license renewed on a Friday afternoon and got drunk, drove to a new job on the other side of the USA and on the following Monday arrived at the job site 2358 miles away and got caught and had it suspended for the 3 years.

Just before I got sober, I came to one morning and remembered that I had been on a long drive and drunker than ###### and had a 44 mag. revolver in my lap and was going to shoot a cop if I was stopped, as I wasn't going to jail anymore.

Needless to say, that scared the ###### out of me,but about a month later I had decided that I needed to go to detox and treatment, but I was drunk in a tavern and drove to my sons home and had him take me to a detox that he knew about,That was 4 years after I had the license suspended.

As I said before,You can't stop a man from driving if he has the desire to drink,,You have to remove the desire,,I have not had the desire to drink for almost 23 years now and have not had to drive drunk.

But then I never had 2 or 3 and then went home,I drank til I was DRUNK.

Drink driving is not a major problem in HK - there is no excuse for it as the public transport system is so efficient, the Chinese don't generally drink much anyway.

The main problem here can be when teenagers get hold of expensive fast cars and have a drink and then go racing - which I think was the case in the incident you are referring to.

I never drink and drive and voted against the death penalty.

Unfortunately I sometimes drive myself home over the steep hills down in Phuket after having consumed too much booze over Patong way. I drive carefully but realize that my reactions are not what they should be. Abroad I have aan alcohol meter in my vehicle, but not down here.

If I had a more permenant home in Phuket I guess that I would have a driver take me around during the evening hours. Not something that I am proud of -- and mean to so something about pronto. Thanks for the reminder.

A suggested solution: teach your wife/girlfriend to drive and thereafter share the driving as we do. I drive to the pub, she drives back.

This is a sensible proposal. Usually, my wife picks me up at the airport, returning late a night. For sure I had a view drinks.

At least in such case I ask her to drive, give me a big satisfaction coming into an

alcohol-control, normally around Ding Deang in BKK. Cops see farang with black-hair female driving. NO PROBLEM, they not even ask you to open the windows.

Where I come from in the US, Nevada, 3 arrests for drunk driving and you do a year in prison. One dui and its two days in the local jail. Methinks its much easier and cheaper to take a taxi when having a few cold ones.

Had one dui in Nevada, and my car insurance tripled went from 800$ to 2400$ a year. They say a dui in the states costs you 10,000$- fine and increased insurance costs. Taxis way cheaper, wish I had use one.

Living here in LOS always use a taxi or skytrain after having a few.
