What kinds of bike are you looking to rent?

There are two bike shops in Kata on the beach side of Patak road. One near the temple, one farther towards Karon.

I have always thought a bike rental would be a decent biz to run out of a well positioned shop. They don't cost much and you could recoup your investment much quicker than motorbike rental. I'm sure though this biz would have it's own set of nightmares to contend with.

I also did it as a thought exercise.. But the fact is, if your cunning about picking up cheap bikes, you can get second hand autos fit for renting, at around the same money a real mountain bike will cost.. Due to volume and import issues on proper pushbikes.

The kind of bikes you get at the cheap prices, really fall apart fast, and are made of terrible parts..

Its very much a niche thing tho, peddling around in this humidity.. Not for the faint hearted.

My friend rented a bike from Promthep Muay Thai. You might be able to get them from other Muay Thai gyms too.

I always thought those Californian cruiser bikes would be good around Patong.

They have no gears, look cool, fairly rugged and not that expensive.

Not so good if you want to get out of the "armpit", but great cruising bikes.
