When will I see a return on my 3 million investment, Simon?

Actually, if you did invest 3 million baht in my SMS work, (and I am not looking for investors),then you would be seeing a return rather quickly..

Try Googling 'simon luttrell sms' and you will see that 'Simon is de man' when it comes to SMS B)

Simon

I did, and I didn't know porn sms chat was legal in Thailand. At least that's what the first result in google says. You developed the sms porn bot Natachata... If you didn't, maybe you should take more care of what you ask us to search for. :annoyed:

Ah yes, I remember that one! It was a huuuge scam luring people into signing up for porn/chat/ and then the poor blighters finding it imposible to unsubscribe! They relyed on most punters not reading the fine print!

Governments around the world moved rather slowly to stop this scam.

I know that In the US these sort of SMS scams are now highly regulated!

Love your work Simon!

See? not OT at all! I could never understand why anyone would pay $1+ to receive a rude text message. Definitely a stupid business offer

Let's get right back OT, because there are some interesting stories out there from Thailand.

Concerning property/business rental, I am amazed at how many property owners who offer commercial space, expect you to invest your time/money in developing this area for your business needs, but refuse to sign a lease longer than 3 years, thus avoiding registration of this lease at the Land Office, and enabling them to refuse to renew the lease, or to demand a huge rental increase/key money, because your business seems to be going well

Filingaccount, going OT, but please learn to read Google properly. The NataChata systsem was used legally in the UK and mainland Europe, never used in Thailand. It was an AI 'chat' system also used by charities to manage first points of contact, and with major stores for handling customer enquiries.

Back OT please

Seems Wikipedia has a different slant. Maybe you can edit... ;)

Some relatives were wanting to buy a van.

A Thai guy brought over a one year old Kia Carnival. Now new they were listing for 1.7 million.

This van had been used to run tourists up to CM , i guess 2 RT per week.

Our mechanic looked at it said the odometer had been rolled back (huge surprise).

The asking price? 1.6 million.

You must be having a laugh.

I was recently offered a partnership in an SMS software startup business based in Phuket for 3 million baht!

When I made some probing enquires it turned out the guy had SFA! not even an office.

The sales pitch was great! even claimed he allready had customers.

A lot of scams out there ;)

Just to comment that (as some Thaivisa members know), my own business for many years concerns SMS and I live in Phuket, but Livinginexile is talking about a totally separate business in Phuket (of which I'm aware).

Nothing to do with me, please move along

:)

Simon

very clever move Clouseau. Hope you got your cast iron underwear on.

I tell you what, this guy Simon is an absolute genious!

After he developed the "sexbot" program where people were ripped off and couldn't unsubscribe, he then went public and developed a program that would help poor victims out of the cluches of his own scams!

Here is a quote from Simon regarding his "new" help program:

August 10, 2005 - Press Dispensary - Millions of UK mobile phone users are plagued by the growing problem of unwanted SMS text messages, ring tones and logos, which can literally add pounds to their bills every month. Simon Luttrell, a veteran of the SMS industry, is offering to eliminate the unwanted spam and obtain refunds for the unsolicited messages from the guilty companies, with his SMS Guardian service (http://www.smsx.biz/spam).

SMS Guardian contacts the company which has sent the charged message, advises them of the offence, and requests a refund of the message costs. The customer care department of the relevant mobile network is also contacted and a request made to block all future charged text messages that are being sent by the named company to this customer. Finally, the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) is contacted, and a request made to register the mobile number so that companies cannot lawfully make unsolicited marketing calls to the number.

Simon explains: ‘Some companies within the SMS sector are abusing the premium charged SMS functionality of the mobile networks. Spam SMS with premium rate charges isn’t just a problem for adults. Children are frequently the recipient of unwanted, expensive ring tones which they haven’t requested, or have unwittingly signed up to receive on a regular basis. In many cases, the recipient of the charged message is completely unaware who has sent it!’

Simon is the "SMS King"

You gotta admire him :)

I would have thought it was pretty clear that as well as the reasons you list, they simply don't want to pay tax on their property or income tax from money received from their property.

Perhaps not the most stupid business offer, but maybe the most stupid building design!

I just went and looked at some new shop houses that have been built on the main Ao Nang high street. These are 4 floors, and from the outside one can see a balcony front and back on each floor (2-4).

'Ah, 2 rooms on each floor' I thought, 'so 6 potential letting rooms'. Sounds good.

Then I went to view inside this building. Unbelievably, the design had the stairwell at the rear of the building, so that the rear balcony was actually a balcony . . . for when climbing the stairs!

What happened to the rear room on each floor? It was there, complete with bathroom and .... no window. A dark box :)

So this attractive shop house building of 4 floors really only had 1 letting room per floor, all because they never thought to build the stairwell in the center of the building.

This was really the worst case of bad design that I've seen. The owner has thrown away any chance of letting these 6 shop houses for guesthouses, unless you prefer a guest room with no window.

Well, a heads up would have been nice about the porn stuff. Not everyone appreciates that kind of stuff you know... specially with children around.

You could have said that "Some of my developed products include NOT SAFE FOR WORK NOR CHILDREN APPROPRIATE".

Not everyone knows who you are, so when you throw out some name and general search terms please make sure you make it known that <xyz> has nothing to do with you and/or some are inappropriate for some viewers and/or use better targeted search terms. Would it make sense to look any further if the first result matches all words exactly? How would one know which result is relevant to you expect trust your search terms to bring up the most valid and relevant results (aka. result #1 in google)?

And if you wanted the topic to be ON topic, do not converse about different topics and invite users to action.

I propose a clean up of your off topic posts and my following posts as well.

i propose a xanax.

Those land prices may seem outrageous now, but take a step back and look at what things used to cost 15 years go. Today's prices were outrageous 5-10 years ago. So while that land price may seem crazy now, ten years from now it will probably be market price. Land holding costs are very low in Thailand so land owners can just wait and wait.

I don't want to derail this topic (that I started), but I cannot let these comments go unanswered, since they create a bad impression of my character.

Whilst many SMS operators did operate services where it was impossible to unsubscribe, and they made huge sums of money from these 'scams' - the SMS services that I operated were in strict accordance with the carrier rules and I was a technical advisor to the UK regulator - ICSTIS.

Regardless of how 'useful' some may regard a text-chat service, those who signed up to my services were able to unsubscribe by texting STOP, exactly as was required by the rules of service. I was never cited by the carriers for breaking these rules.

Perhaps this is why I only made a small fortune, not a large fortune :)
