Hi,

My 1 year Drivers License will expire on July 17th. I have a family emergency (mom is terminally ill) and will be leaving the country on July 15th and returning in early august.

I understand that they are strict on when you can renew / extend to a 5 year DL. Has anyone had experience on what can be done on this situation? Any advice is much appreciated...I don’t want to start over from scratch.

Also my motorbike license (same date) is lost. What are the procedures for this?

Just do it after you come back, it's fine. You have to wait until the 1 year license is expired anyway. No reason to worry.

It varies depending on which office you go to/where you live. Some say wait until it expires while others allow you to renew your licence up to 3 months early and cancel your licence if you are more than a few days late. The only way to be sure is to check with your particular office.

You need to report the loss of the m/c licence to the police and to take a copy of the police report with you to get a new licence.
