For some time now we have been buying our water in the large white hard plastic bottles from our local village shop ( I think they are 20 Lt size) at 13 Baht a bottle and they have a shrink seal around the screw top, some times the bottle say's on it Drinking Water..? some times it only shows the makers logo. We have been using it for both drinking and cooking. Just recently ive noticed more Thais buying the branded water from Tesco Etc , So Ive asked around and it seem's that some people are buying the 20 Lt large white bottles for drinking water, but many now seem to be saying that this type of large white bottle is for " cooking " only and not to be used for drinking..? if you drink water from the large white bottles ( not the large clear bottles that go on top of a drinking water machine ) it could give you an up set stomach.Etc .? any one had any experience's or can comment on the Large white water bottles ... are they safe to use as Drinking water...or is it for Cooking only ...?

Thanks ..... Mumbo

As far as I know, water in a big white bottle is clean , and good for cooking, but for drinking I 'd rather drink on other bottle which say's on Drinking water. To make sure and safe , cook them and pour in bottles at home by yourself. That is another way. :o

We have one of those 3 stage filters with the UV zapper on top, use for cooking.

The other half then filters again with a Kenwood jug (from the UK) for drinking.

Water tastes good, and no problems with bugs etc. Straight from the tap for teeth etc.

We don't use the big white bottles.I don't trust the contents as the sealing is not professional and everybody seems to sell them ( and fill them ??)

For our drinking we first use the 5 ltr bottles from the shop.

(we do have 2 hot/cold dispensors and very difficult to put these "small" bottles on top.)

In the local hospital we saw the big bottles ( brand; Dee Na) and we found out where to buy.

It is local fabrication at 20 baht /bottle and has a good taste.

Only use it for cooking and drinking
