The Thai Baht, Where Does It Go? Up Or Down?

Recommended Posts

Not that anyone cares but the baht is stabilizing. The changes in the chinese yuan only assist the baht position. My advice to you is do some homework discover the economic relationship between the yuan and the baht, then you can answer these questions yourself. What happens to the baht in relationship to euro, us dollar is entirely dependent on how they do in the world market. The baht is stable .Euro,us dollar arenot.

The Thai baht is tied to the U.S. dollar.

2 years ago you could get 2 dollars 6 cents for a a UK pound at that time you got 68 to 70 baht to the UK pound.

The pound has now collapsed down to 1.48 to the Dollar. It has varied from as low as the 1.20's to 1.49 over the last few months / weeks.

I am no maths genius ( note I use the plural UK Maths instead of singular American Math ) but the percentages do not add up.

Because at one time the Baht should have gone as low as 30 something to the Pound but never did.

I have read numerous reports from self confessed experts on this subject and I am none the wiser.

over the last 20 years the Baht has been as low as 33 and as high as 90 against the pound.

So the first rule of understanding this is....There are no rules.

The logic behind all this is.....There is no logic.

In a country that was on the brink of civil war and has a fraction of the tourists it used to have that still has the "face" to basically cover it all up and lie about it......Strangley it still has a currency that you do not need a wheel barrow to cart billion baht notes around Tesco Lotus.....

But as my GF pointed out when she has one baht she still has one baht. I can magically turn one baht into 48 by handing over my pound......

I was at my bank today; there was a short line.

There was just one lady in front of me, an Asian lady who was trying to exchange yen for dollars.

It was obvious she was a little irritated . . . She asked the teller, "Why it change? Yesterday, I get two hunat dolla fo yen. Today I only get hunat

eighty? Why it change?"

The teller shrugged his shoulders and said, "Fluctuations."

The Asian lady says, "Fluc you white people too"

If you think the pound/dollar has been traded "as low as the 1.20's" recently, then you either got a phenomenal rate selling dollars or you got ripped off buying them. The low for the year was 1.43 and change, reached earlier this month.

In any case I do agree with you 120% that you are no math genius.
