Bike Insurance

Featured Replies

Many years ago, well, about ten, I naively tried to get theft insurance on my new Sonic. No insurance company was interested. They all wanted to sell me medical and ambulance cover in case of an accident.

Now, I am thinking about buying a new bike again. Every bike shop I go to is trying to sell me either theft insurance or class 1 insurance which includes theft cover. I was quoted 2,500 on a CBR 150 for "theft insurance" and 17,200 for class 1 insurance on a Ninja 250.

Which of these 10 things does class 1 insurance cover?

1. Theft

2. Fire

3. Injury to third party (not my fault)

4. Damage to third party vehicle(not my fault)

5. Injury to me(not my fault)

6. Damage to my bike(not my fault)

7. Injury to third party(my fault)

8. Damage to third party vehicle(my fault)

9. Injury to me(my fault)

10. Damage to my bike(my fault)

How much did anyone else pay for insurance and what cover did you get?

1st Class insurance will cover all of your 10 items. However if you are looking at 'Theft' insurance and are not worried by damage to you your bike then 2nd Class will cover that (Third Party, Fire & Theft).

That's interesting. Second class insurance may include cover for theft. I was not aware of that.

I feel 17,200 for class 1 insurance on a purchase of 147,500 (not including compulsory insurance and registration) is too high. Of course, choosing which insurance is always a gamble and Sod's law often comes into play.
