UPDATE

Pattaya Immigration arrest Finnish National wanted in Sweden

PATTAYA: -- On Friday at the Chonburi Immigration Center located in Soi 5 off Jomtien Beach Road, a press conference was held to announce the arrest of a Finnish National, Mr. Sven Tommy Lindfors aged 50 at the Angate Condominium in Soi Watboon in Jomtien. He was arrested in conjunction with Interpol who received information from Swedish Authorities that he was wanted in connection with a case of misappropriation of funds in relation to payment of company taxes from a Real Estate and Construction Company based in Eskilstuna in Sweden (Bygg & Fastighetsservice i Nyfors AB). Immigration determined that Mr. Lindfors was originally a Swedish National but changed his nationality to Finnish following an incident in July 2007 whereby he was arrested for allegedly transporting 2kg of Cocaine into Thailand from Holland. He was banned from entering Thailand for a period of 8 years and was desperate to return as he had a Thai Wife living here in Pattaya. He not only changed his nationality but also had a Tattoo removed from his arm. He returned to Thailand in July 2008 but while he was in his native country of Sweden, he gained employment with the real Estate Company and was accussed of not paying taxes amounting to the equivalent of 46 Million Baht since January 2008. Mr. Lindfors, who appeared relaxed at the Immigration Office, was later handed over to the Swedish Authorities and he will be deported back to Sweden to face charges.

Busted for importation of 2 kilos of cocaine, and all he got was an 8-year ban?

Is it just me or does that seem kind of strange? He got banned, so somebody somewhere was convinced of his guilt, but not convicted of the crime (apparently) and not punished in any other way.

It's laughable that nobody is trying to find out who he bribed and re-opening the original importation case.

But this is Thailand I suppose, where every pirate gets to keep the booty even after the ship sinks.
