Hi All,

I was out today looking at Honda's. At the dealers they had the top of the range City (at 694,000B) and next to it they had the 1.8 E AS (AS) for 914,000B.

To be hoenst, I was very impressed with the City. The Civic is nice, but comparing them side by side, the City is a really attractive little package. They have pretty much all the same features as far as I can gather, with the excpetion of Leather / Cruise control / Auto Air Con..... I think the civic may have a 6 cd changer too? But the little City has the paddle shift gear box, reclining back seats that also split and fold, and really nice alloys. There is no doubt the Civic is wider, but it did not feel like it have much more leg room, and to be honest I would almost say the boot in the City is bigger - it is certain deeper (taller).

So - I'd like to discuss, what in your opinion is the main advantage(s) of buying a Civic 1.8 E AS (AS) over a top-of-the-range City? I owuld be most interested in terms of:

(1) Safety

(2) Comfort

(3) Practicality

The additional cost is not probative - but "a fool and his money are easily parted" so I need to justify the additional 200k. I am of course interested in any other views and opinions and recommendations.

Many thanks in advance.

They both have five gears but the Civic is much better at speed then the City. The engine is less busy and much less wind/tire noise.

The interior on the Civic uses much better materials then the City. The quality of the plastic and carpet in the City is poor, even on the top model. Seats on the Civic are also more comfortable, certainly if you are 100kg+.

If you drive 100kph+ on a regular basis consider the Civic. Or you like carpet.

I bought the City, the Civic wasn't worth the extra money in my opinion.

Thanks for the replies folks.

So basically, the 200k in the civic goes to provide bigger better seats, leather interior, better quality materials, and better ride comfort...... its just better in otherwords, which I usppose is what you'd expect from a C-segment car. The question is I suppose, do I need that extra comfort ...... which is something only I can answer.

What about depreciation / resale value. Is either a better option in terms of being able to sell it one in 2-3years time? Obviously I will loose more in terms of Baht on the civic since it costs more, but in terms of percentages..... and/or ease of sale?

I had the 2006 0.2L and sold it in 08 for 780k. It cost 1.025k new. It's too late for me to work out the % but I hope it will give you an idea. It had 55k on the clock.

By the way I miss the car, it was a great car and I enjoyed it.

I changed it for an Accord because I needed more room due to having to put a car seat in the back. When I put the seat in the Civic nobody could sit in the front. Plus not to mention extra boot space and comfort.

City is a small car (jazz) stretched and booted to fit thais preference for sedans. its still a small car build, with small engine, brakes, suspension. great in town and doable in 120 kmh. terrible loaded at high speeds

Civic is a much larger car, very long wheelbase, large car build with suspension, brakes, engine and auto to fit. great on highways and fast curvy roads

City is focusing on costs and resale is great

Civic is focusing on performance and comfort, and resale wont be that great when a new model is released.

You mention a new model for the Civic - is that due any time soon?

I reckon that is about 6-7% per year? Bought in 2006 and sold in 2010, @6.5% PA (66k PA) ....... 66x4 = 266k ...... 1MB-266k = 744k ..... so that is just a very rough estimate.

should be, since present Civic is the oldest Honda model sold in LOS, like 5 years by now
