If she is just a sales clerk type, no college, working 28 days per month, she is probably making about 6,000 baht per month. No income taxes withheld. 4% of salary withheld for social fund - if she is a "formal" employee.

If she has opening/closing and/or money-handling responsibilities, she might be making 8,000-10,000 baht, depending upon her responsibility level. 'Still no income tax, and still 4% withheld for social fund.

Those are my guesses. Things may be different if she is a family member of owners, or one of their freinds.

Cheers!

Thanks for the info.

And if she was earning say 8000bht a month and had a 10yr old kid could she live reasonably well?

Nope and that's why you have after hours place for these girls where they can get extra money. Some work in the shops to get a nice farang guy who is not afraid to talk to them and take them to diner. You would be surprised how many would go with you if you talk to them nicely and respectfully. I had a few of those in my young years.

You just go to BKK and live on 8K a month, bet you cant do it (not unless you live one level up from homeless)

Cheap room 2K, Kid and parents 2K, Food 3k, where is the rest she needs for all the extra things required for a decent level of living ?

Young Thai women can scrape by on that sort of wage, but not live well. What is typical would be that her 10-year old son is living with her parents away from Bangkok, and she is living with 3-6 other girls in a shared apartment. By pooling resources with a group, they can all scrape on by. But - there is no safety net, and no reserve if something goes wrong. No saving, no wealth-building.

This is the scenario that drives young women to drift toward pay-4-play. With a child, they are pretty much unmarryable to a Thai man. Their only recourse is looking for a foreigner. And - in that pursuit, they are up against "professional" girls, so they learn that they cannot take it "slow and easy" - the competition will steal their intended partner.
