English State Pension For A Thai

Featured Replies

Folks

My Mrs is 39 and should, hopefully, be granted an ILE visa soon.

So assuming she starts work soon after she arrives and assuming she starts paying NI contributions also, will she qualify for a state pension? And under what conditions?

Cheers

If she has been working in the UK and paying National insurance contributions then she will qualify for a state pension under the same conditions as a British citizen.

But she's 39 and will likely have hit 40 by the time she's working FT. So, will they still pay her (if she is a Brit citizen) at retirement age with so few/minimal contributions?

If she has not paid enough contributions to get the full pension, she will still get something provided she has paid sufficient 'qualifying contributions' but at a reduced rate; the same as a British citizen.

See Qualifying for a basic State Pension and Do you need to top up your National Insurance contributions?

BTW, she doesn't have to become a British citizen to qualify for a state pension, as long as she has paid sufficient NI contributions.

The number of contributing years required for a full pansion is 30. So, if she works from age 40 to 60 she will pay NI for twenty years. Her pension will be twenty thirtieths (20/30) of whatever the state pension is when she reaches retirement age. That is changing as the age is being raised.

She will also be entitled to a widow's pension (now renamed)on your death.

Well, I'd prefer to spare her that.

Good luck with getting work.

She'll be fine - she's educated and has a fair CV. I couldnt do it myself but she wants to do some NVQs and work with retards or whatever the politically correct term is,

Without opening that, I could almost predict and write the story that would be contained in that comic that passes itself as a newspaper for the ranks of the great unwashed.
