So I need to show income of 40,000thb for a marriage visa. This income would be shown to be from overseas.

What exactly do I need to produce?

A letter from a registered company in my home country stating my salary and position?

Or is there more?

A Bank book or statements showing that monthly income?

Tax reciepts?

What exactly do I have to show?

Thanks.

If you are talking about an extension to Visa based on marriage.....

You need a letter from your embassy confirming the amounts, if you are from the UK you will need to produce evidence to the embassy, different embassys different methods but the Uk you have to prove the amounts.

Or you could show 400,000 in a Thai account (your name) must be there for 3 (maybe 2 in the first application) months before your application.

Income form abroad must be confirmed with a letter from your embassy. Contact your embassy to see what kind of proof they require, each embassy has it's own rules about issuing such a letter.

Can the 400,000 a year amount be a combination of me and the (Thai) Mrs.- dual nationality - (or even the Mrs. alone), foreign income, confirmed by letter from embassy?

No. It has to be the Husbands income or savings.

No, must be your named account, same as the 40,000 a month must be shown as your income only.

It may help if you said where you are from, as embassey rules differ from different countries (for the letter etc)

As said. Whatever your Embassy requires.

Is there somewhere online I can check what exchange rate (GBP) they are currently using to calculate it in THB?

It varies day to day and office to office, latest news was around 48, my extension id due next week will let you know what rate the used then

Be advised that the Immigration Office may not use the official Central Bank rate but rather a rate such as posted by Bangkok Bank or Kasikorn as you will never in fact receive the Central Bank rate in any transaction... The exchange rate used for extension purposes will be a rate of THEIR choosing; not yours.

That's what I'm after, but I thought I saw it on their website once and now I can't find it.

I didn't think they varied it day to day but more a periodic buffered review. In volatile times it could easily catch someone out who seeded their account 3 months prior to the application.

To the other replies, thanks, but I know the exchange rate and how to check it.

I wanted to know if there was somewhere online I could check what rate Immigration are using.

Immigration has normally accepted the rate you claim if it close to what they believe it should be. But now that they have computers on there desks they may be a bit less forgiving.

Feedback from Irish Consulate:

For some reason they think I'm a pensioner. Only 35 years more to go. :D

To obtain pension letter for applying Thai visa

We can issue a letter to confirm your pension for handing to Thai Immigration in relation to apply for visa, however in order to issue this letter, Please submit these following documents in original to us:

1. your original passport

2. short letter from yourself explaining why you need this letter, indicating your residential address and contact telephone number in Thailand and also the amount of your income

3. bank statement showing detail of income which goes to your account

4. letter from your employer or government office confirming the amount of your income.

5. fee of 880 baht

Please note that we only have to see your original document and will return it all to you on the same day. The letter will be ready for collecting on the next working day.

BTW, I'm currently living here on Tourist Visas. Would I have to go to an embassy/consulate outside Thailand to change it to a Non-imm O marriage visa, or can it be changed over at Bangkok immigration?

Posted

It would be best to change to a non immigrant O visa from a Consulate. It can be done inside Thailand during the extension of stay process but for marriage it would likely take several visits over a few months and could require two letters of income rather than one.

BTW

I have more than the required amount coming into my Thai bank account every month, but haven't a WP so no taxes paid etc. I shall guess that simply showing my Bank Book and Bank statements isn't enough to the immigration staff when applying for the Marriage Visa?

Or if I had it going through my wife's account? But still no tax on it?

Thanks.

Income from within Thailand must be shown with tax documents, income from abroad with a letter from your embassy.

It has to be your income or your money in the bank.

Income from within Thailand must be shown with tax documents,

Okay thanks.

Is this one of the Thai visa catch 22s? You need a WP to pay tax, but presumably cannot legally work on a marriage visa, so how can one work with a WP, pay Tax and have a Marriage visa at the same time?

Or can you legally work with a WP on a marriage visa?

No visa allows work. You must have a work permit. But a work permit can be issued on a non immigrant O visa for those that are married to a Thai.
