Not sure about the YWCA. However, the Village People (where are they now? Pattaya?) did indeed have something to say about this outrage:

We are deeply dismayed by today's announcement from the Y.M.C.A. that they feel a name change and a rebranding are in order after 166 years. Some things remain iconic and while we admire the organization for the work they do, we still can't help but wonder Y.

I don't really mind about the name change. As long as the spirit persists.

The Boston YMCA was the first one I stayed at, ever. I didn't know it was the oldest.
