Jewellery Vanished 'After Thai DSI Put It On Display'

Maybe, just maybe, the Red-shirt managed to steal it for the second time.

Why not, they did it in the 1st time.

It is almost impossible for the DSI to steal it themselves, as they are the law enforcer themselves.

Please follow this story and see if justice is served. Law enforcers is not the correct statement for them, its Law abusers......

I can predict the outcome. Nothing will happen, the story will disappear and will blow over where the jewelry owner probably has no insurance on his assets and DSI will continue on adding performance of their unsolved crimes to their everlasting list.

Its funny to think that when a criminal is caught, all these news come out but not once do they announce the conviction and terms of imprisonment or trial dates etc..

So if DSI did not steal it, could it be the police or the army? Unlikely too, as they are good people that protect Thais from bad people (like the thieves that stole it).

You cannot be serious -can you? The Thai Police are viewed by most outside Thailand, including the UN as a criminal organization and even most Thai would not argue against the view that they are corrupt from top to bottom. Of course some public servants stole these valuables. Had a friend who died in pattaya two years ago, the Police even stole money off his dead body, I mean how low can these people get?

I read in the Nation Newspaper article, that the woman jewler made a 5m baht claim: that the DSI said they never had the jewlery; never listed it, so it was either the police or the military. Yet never having had the jewelery, ths DSI also states that the tags said in the hundreds of thousands of baht not 5m claimed by the owner.

Is it not funny that someone knows what the tags read, but never saw or had the jewlery ??

No, what you read was that the jeweler claimed against DSI that it was worth 100k but later, when announcing it to the press, said the worth was 5 million.

The reason? We can only speculate.

<br />It was in the list, and photographed by DSI. Now DSI try to divert the matter saying it is not 5 mil, but 100K.<br />BUT STILL IT WENT MISSING ISN'T IT?<br />Or is it OK to steal 100K & not 5 million?<br />DSI, & Tharit, shame on you to divert the matter.<br />
<br /><br />You say it was on the list and was photographed by the DSI.<br /><br />DSI say it wasn't on the list.<br /><br />Whos' right?<br /><br />Do you have any documents to share to prove it was on the list?<br />

"Some of the items of jewellery people claim have disappeared from the storeroom of the Department of Special Investigation. PHOTO COURTESY OF DSI"

The photo of the missing right was taken by DSI and is on show in BP right NOW. Sorry I cannot post the link due to rules.

So DSI took the photo, and now DSI say it did not have it, and never had it. Ring a bell?

btw, where is the investigation about the stolen jewels of the Saudi Prince ? The police had had one of its finest moments there .Wonder whether the Thaï thief is still alive.

Well, there would have been more than one. As I recall, the Saudi prince complained that about half of the items returned to him were fakes, and of course many items were not returned to him at all. I never did find out the name of the police general whose wife was supposedly photographed wearing one of the necklaces, but surely there would have been many others of lower rank who would have shared in the loot to reward their help in destroying evidence. The general would have been older (but still not sixty, the mandatory retirement age)so might have passed away by now, but most of the younger people would still be alive. Might be retired by now, though.

There has been several murders related to this case, I guess sending the message leave the case alone, the amazing thing is the Thai house servant who stole the goods in two large suitcases and unaided managed to get them back to Thailand today is walking a free man, albeit destitute.

What a pointless first post.

Worldwide law enforcement did not start in the States in the 1800s. There's more to the world than the "US Wild West". You've been watching too many westerns.

When Sir Robert Peel started the Metropolitan Police in London in 1829, do you really think he chose to only employ criminals?

By the way, in the UK the police don't carry guns.

ever seen the guys at UK airports with sub machine guns, funny they dress up in police uniforms.

Police Chief Calls for Evidence in Missing Jewelry Case

The police chief suggested disclosure of evidence on the custody of five million baht worth of stolen jewelry retrieved after the Central World Plaza arson attack to settle the controversy over its disappearance.

Acting national police chief Police General Patheep Tanprasert said he has no details about the Department of Special Investigation's statement that retrieved jewelry that later went missing was not on the list of confiscated items it received from the Center for the Resolution of Emergency Situation.

Patheep stated all evidence for the transfers of the confiscated items should be disclosed and police are ready to cooperate upon requested.

Commenting on the repeal of the state of emergency in Lampang, Sakon Nakhon and Roi Et provinces, the acting police chief noted there is no sign of any unruly incident in those provinces so far, while the situation in five other provinces where the emergency law was canceled remains normal.

Meanwhile, DSI Director-General Tharit Pengdit said he has assigned its staff to interrogate suspected red-shirt militant Surachai Thewarat at the Bangkok Remand Prison although he has refused further testimony.

Tharit said his department will offer help for Surachai's one-month infant and treat his wife and mother as eyewitnesses for his charges of firearms trafficking to convince him to change his mind.

MISSING JEWELLERIES

Officer ready to undergo lie detector to prove his innocence

By The Nation

Published on July 22, 2010

30134292-01.jpg

Colonel Sittiporn Charoenput from the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) yesterday offered to undergo a lie detector to clear public doubt about an allegation that some jewellery items had gone missing while in his agency's custody.

Sittiporn, the head of the DSI Evidence Storage Division, is the only man who has held the key to the safety box containing 40 glittering items.

These sparkling pieces were found inside the Pathumwanaram Temple at the end of the redshirt rally in May and then handed over the DSI as evidence.

"We received these valuables from the Centre for Resolution of Emergency Situation (CRES) on May 22 and we have since kept them in the safety box," Sittiporn said.

The owner of the Phet Siam Jewellery Centre said these valuables had been stolen from his shop. On July 2, he visited the DSI and later complained that a ring and two pairs of earrings went missing.

The actual value of the items remained unclear.

"I would like to ask the owner to come and check the items together, one by one," Sittiporn said.

According to him, the safety box is located inside a strong room on the sixth floor of the DSI headquarters. Only two DSI officials including Sittiporn can pass an eyescan to enter the strong room, which is also protected by iron gates.

Fuangwich Anirutthewa, secretary to Pirapan Salirathavibhaga, said he planned to witness the opening of the safety box at the DSI in presence of the complainant, and representatives from DSI, the police and the military.

He expected the truth to come up very soon. Fuangwich suspected that someone might have wanted to discredit the military via this scandal.

"We will hold a press conference next Wednesday to clear up any lingering doubt," Fuangwich said.

Pirapan has assigned him to lead the probe into this scandal.

According to Fuangwich, the lists prepared by the military as well as DSI were consistent both showing just 40 items of sparkling pieces found.

An informed source at the Justice Ministry, meanwhile, disclosed that some people were allowed to take a look at the precious items in custody even though they had no duty to handle those things.

It added that these people also expressed an interest in some of the sparkling pieces.

"Now that the missing pieces become big news, they are trying to negotiate with the CRES, the Justice Ministry as well as the jewelleryshop owner," this source said.

It added that the jewelleryshop owner was now offered Bt300,000 compensation to end

I was once arrested on false charges by DSI. One of their agents pulled me off the bicycle I was riding at a park, late afternoon. I was dressed in t-shirt and shorts, traveling at walking pace, spacing out in the sunshine. They picked on me because they were bored and I was the only farang in the vicinity. There was an ASEAN meet across town, so that's why there were authorities milling all over. They demanded to see my passport. I told them I left it at home. They demanded I take them to my home. There were 9 of them in two late model SUV's. No way was I going to bring 9 plainclothes thugs posing as police to my home. I directed them to take me to the police station. They were angry, but complied grudgingly. After thwarting multiple threats from them to drag me to the back room for questioning (and...?), they finally let me and my bicycle go. I don't trust the DSI. They're the same ilk that 'disappeared' the Muslim attorney who was on his way to meet his clients in southern Thailand, several years ago (on Thaksin's watch). details of this story in my novel; 'Lali's Passage'

Sorry, I don't believe your account.

I think you just make it up for blame DSI.

However this is just my view, as I see no reason why 9 DSI officers would want to waste their time on a guy on a bicycle. If you are on a motorcycle with dark helmet and fake number plate, maybe.

Not quite true ... if the courts always sided with the crooks, then Australia would have no Caucasian nationals :whistling: (think about it)

What a total load of dribble. How do you come to this conclusion? Have you ever been a Police Officer or ever known one? I bet the only time you met a Police Officer was when you were being arrested and now you still hold a grudge because if wasn't for them catching you then you wouldn't have your criminal record.

I just heard from the radio that CRES has declared that nothing has gone missing. It was just some mis-labeling. Everything is all accountable for, and a press conference will be held on the 28-July.

I thing the case will be close soon.

I still suspect that a thieve in uniform finally return the ring due to public pressure; but this is just my opinion.
