I no longer have my pool guy and so took it upon myself to buy the equipment to do it myself.

So I plugged the 'vacuum cleaner' thing into the hole after removing the basket, turned on the pump, and nothing happened. No suction.

What step have I missed? Thankyou:)

If your pool is similar to mine you should have 3 "holes" for taking water out of the pool and 3 or more for putting it back in.

My pool has 1 hole at the bottom of the deep end, covered with a grate, 1 hole where the skimmer is and 1 more at the side of the pool a few inches below the waterline.

In the pool house there are 3 taps that control the on/off from the 3 holes taking water out of the pool.

Normally the taps from the hole in the deep end and the 1 from the skimmer are open for filtering through the sand filter.

The other tap from the side of the pool is closed.

When I want to use the vacuum I close the 2 taps from the bottom and skimmer and open the tap for the hole at side.

I leave the lever on the sand filter set to "Filter."

Then plug in your hose to the 1 at the side and away you go. When finished, just reverse the process.

You can also use the hole at the skimmer for vacuuming but change the taps accordingly.

Obviously, this process is for vacuuming your pool. If you want to "waste" water after a lot of rain etc. or if you want to "backwash" the process is different.

Whether you use the vacuum hose or not when you "waste or backwash" you must first stop your pump and then using the lever on the sand filter, turn it to the process you need and then turn the pump on again.

Hope that helps.

Thank you:). I'd also forgotten to ensure there's no air in the hose.
