Thai Shin Satellite To Launch iPSTAR July 11

BANGKOK: -- Thailand's Shin Satellite PCL (SATTEL.TH) said Monday it will launch its latest broadband satellite iPSTAR on July 11.

The launch date has been slightly delayed from the earlier announced July 8.

iPSTAR will need to go through the final stage of the launch-readiness review by the company, its manufacturer Space Systems Loral, and the launcher, Arianespace (ARS.YY), on July 8, Shin Satellite said in a filing to the Stock Exchange of Thailand.

If all conditions are acceptable, the $400 million satellite will be lunched July 11 at 0640GMT from a launch pad in French Guiana, the company said.

Initiated in 2000, the iPSTAR launch has been postponed at least three times since mid-2003 due to time-consuming construction and testing processes. The company claims that iPSTAR will be the world's largest commercial satellite.

Shin Satellite is 51%-owned by Shin Corp., the telecommunications conglomerate founded by Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
