Your photos are fascinating.

but could you furnish some details?

firstly the photographers and printers and maybe the nationalities and some background info?

I think a photo on its own is really only a small part of the story.

i'm keenly interested in both the use of photography then and the use of those photos now I think they can be a very useful historical tool.

Thanks. The initial struggle for me when I decided to take on this project here was whether I might add a brief bio, note, or story behind each individual image. As I do have a knowledgeable brief for nearly every item that I might post.....that's a lot of work. Surely, this might put some off or not. Not throughout all.....but I've attempted to rename the coding in a great percentage of photos displayed here. If I had more free time available, I would clearly enjoy labeling each and every one. As it stands, one can view the coding and get an idea or give it a good guess. Like many things, we can't please everyone - even if our attempts and intent are honourable. B)

So the purpose of the project is simply to post the photos?

are there any conservation issues being addressed?

How are you cataloguing? Classifying?

are they available for research?

Perhaps a trifle off of topic, however if you go to,

http://www.digitalbookindex.org

the availability of books concerning the history of Siam and other states in the region is pretty good either as a research project or a leisurely self learning course.

Posting all these photos is already a monstrous job. It is very understandable that to title each one of them as a matter of generosity cannot be expected from anyone. If this were not ThaiVisa but a history web site it might be different.

But some comments how this collection came about, your personal interest would be most interesting. Are they virtual or real prints? Do you share your knowledge in any other way?

Still, I would expect myself to explain as many images as possible. As I've attempted to rename the posting code on the image itself...you'll notice as you open the respective photo. There might be another option, but would be impossible concerning bandwidth and space. Nonetheless, we go on. The collection.......I'm extremely interested in Thai/Siam history. Some real aspects and critiques can't be made public in some circles. I write and collect historical material for numerous bodies. History {generally speaking} tends to be misinterpreted or misaligned in some fashion or another. Some have mentioned that a coffee-table photo book could be in order - Siam/Thailand History. Thanks...;)

I'd hate to see a coffe-table book as the only product.

photos are one of the most misinterpreted aspects of historical evidence.

I for one would like to express my thanks to Deeral for taking both the time and the effort in posting these pictures for us all to view.

I have found many historical gems in the written format on digital book.com however the visual images have been somewhat sparse, now that gap is filled thanks to Deeral.

My wife is amazed at what she has seen as are our children as they were not aware of the history of Siam and later Thailand via photographic images.
