Rolls-Royce Bullish On Thailand

Featured Replies

Rolls-Royce opened their offices in Thailand in 1989 and it seems their long term commitment to the region will continue with the announcement that Thailand is a key part of the company’s plans for growth in Asia . The company employs over 40,000 people worldwide and now does almost 40% of their business in Asia. The new Rolls-Royce Thailand Managing Director as of March 2010 , Ewen McDonald, is working to develop Thailand into more than just a part of their supply chain for the large engines being made in Singapore. Rolls has held 2 supply chain events in the Kingdome and is working closely with the Thai Board of Investment (BOI) to strengthen manufacturing in Thailand. Primus International, which supplies aerospace related engine parts to Rolls-Royce is opening a manufacturing plant outside Bangkok, with her CEO, Jim Hoover, saying that: close proximity to Rolls-Royce, a pool of skilled workers, competitive labor costs and BOI incentives were the main reasons for the coming to Thailand. While Rolls is aware of the recent political instability they didn’t deter the BOD as they are committed to Thailand for the “long haul”.

Rolls-Royce’s major clients in Thailand include: Thai Airways International, Bangkok Airways, PTT, EGAT, and the Royal Thai Air Force.
