Recommendations For A Tree Removal Company

Recommended Posts

Anyone have a recommendation for a tree removal company. I've got a big tree that needs to be remmoved before it grows into my house. We got one quote of 45K and that seems a bit (quite a bit) too much.

The price you were quoted seems really excessive to me, removing a large tree in Australia where the wages are much higher

costs around 30000 baht, i would get another quote and ask local people if they know someone who will do the job if you supply

a chainsaw, i have not priced them here but you should be able to get a good one for 10000 baht or less and the labor should

not be that expensive.

as OP mentioned, the tree is nearby his house.

i would not ask some people(with no experience) to do this job, because Thais can do "evellithing",

even damaging your house, and then?? who made the fault???

The tree-of course.

look for people which have all the equipment, and the Know how of course.

The way I see it is there will be some sort of crane needed and then the tree needs to be lopped off in a few pieces. It's a big tree on our property, but I too think it should be less than 1500 USD for the crane rental, equipment to secure the tree and make sure it doesn't fall where it shouldn't, a chainsaw or two, and the manpower.

I too have been wondering about who pays if there is a screw up. We have homeowners insurance, but whether they'll cover any damage is a question mark.

Unfortunately the Or Bor Tor won't do it as it's on private land, and the quote came from someone from that office who has a cousin or friend etc.

That's not the way they do it.

They start loping of branches from the top down, leaving the main trunk and boughs.

Then they start cutting the boughs until only the trunk is left. They then cut that down.

No cranes and usually no damage to a nearby house.

Yes you are correct that's how i used to do but you also cut the trunk down in sections with a rope attached to guide the sections in the right direction.

Also you do not climb the tree carrying the saw but pull it up on a rope.

Tree is about 1.8 metres in diameter and sits between 2 houses. There is an empty field next to us, but our fence runs between the empty field and the tree. Somehow I have a feeling that the fence will be getting damaged.

Big tree i would have to see it, i still think it can be done, how much would the fence cost to replace if damaged.

A mate of mine borrowed equipment from me which i still had though i had stopped doing it, i told him what

lengths to cut, did not do as told and cut the sections of to long and to heavy so he had no way of controlling

them, ended up having to fix a large hole in his roof.

Sorry guys to interrupt....have a similar problem with a big trunk left in my garden (bamboo-bush) ,the former owner cut all the bamboo till 60 cm coz it was destroying the roof.....

Now im stuck with all the rest and it`s a heaven for all kind of insects,snakes....whatever..... I tried to cut with an axe and some equipment i bought but its almost impossible.....

worked 1 week and only 10% gone....(i asked many thais and offer them good money....after 1 hour they`re quit.....!

I know kind of a crane gripper would do the job easily but not reachable whithout tearing down a house.....

So,im looking to rent or use a real big axe or chainsaw( wich i hear its hard to find here coz kind of illegal),

A big axe or some experiended people would be a big help already.....

Anybody out there with ideas......?

Thanks in advance for some good advice or help....

You mentioned a chainsaw. To buy a chainsaw one needs a permit. To use a chainsaw one needs another permit. Neither of these permits are avaialbe to foreigners. This is to prevent illegal logging.

I have heard that the only way to get rid of bamboo other than ripping it out with a mechanical digger, is to burn it. The smouldering fire lasts for days.

I guess you aren't well connected. My landlord must be, he's a old time local native of Rawai. The Or Bor Tor is next door with chainsaws, a back hoe, cherry picker and big dump truck taking out three trees and seven guys. Amazing Thailand! I know this doesn't do you any good, but interesting... Local Thai price 3,000. Even the fire truck and the police chief came by.smile.gif

I must not be seeing as I'm not a long time native resident like your landlord. Feel free to talk to your landlord to send them over here once they're done there. I'll even throw in a case of their favourite beer or whisky :).
