Penetration - Future Daze [1978]

The lead female singer on this was one of the best I ever heard, sadly under-rated, as indeed, were Penetration.

The Wedding Present - I Found That Essence Rare [1988]

What a song, I thought I had heard virtually every WP track, until tonight.

Oh great stuff, crank it up now, lovely, give the neighbours a treat.

Probably the only time I will ever post anything by this joke band, or mock rock as old Whispering would have said.

However even I will concede, they actually pulled it off.

There are things we know and things we don't know, and in between there are doors.

In the ancient Book of the Dun Cow, the hero was wooed by a goddess who whisked him away to the "earthly paradise beyond the sea" in a magical ship that belonged to the sea god Manannan - a ship that was made of crystal, knew its pilot's mind and was capable of flying over sea of land.

Will we make land? I truly hope so

All hands on deck, we've run a float,
I heard the Captain cry.
Explore the ship, replace the cook,
Let no one leave alive.
Across the straits, around the horn,
How far can sailors fly?
A twisted path, our tortured course,
And no one left alive.

We sailed for parts unknown to man,
Where ships come home to die.
No lofty peak, nor fortress bold,
Could match our captain's eye.
Upon the seventh seasick day,
We made our port of call.
A sand so white, and sea so blue,
No mortal place at all.
We fired the guns, and burned the mast,
And rowed from ship to shore.
The captain cried, we sailors wept,
Our tears were tears of joy!
Now many moons and many Junes,
Have passed since we made land.
A Salty Dog, the seaman's log,
Your witness, my own hand.

Ee gads, is there no hope for our upcounty hippy?

There is indeed, in the time it took Mr Mojo Risn to wake up from a drunken slumber, these lads had knocked out a classic.

Lovely stuff, old skool proper music, none of yer pretensious lyrics about "the doors of perception" from a fat deadbeat over the hill whacko who thought he was a Red Indian, laughable if it wasnt so true.

Another great long forgotten band.

Heard he was living upcountry in ban nork, lol.

Egyptian Cream, LOL, just how would I translate that into Thai, LOL.

It's a shame Sir Bob Harris ( no relation to Bomber Harris of WW2 fame), never interviewed the great poet and visionary James Morrison ( no relation to the recently appointed Sir Van Morrison)

Future generations born and bred on the nihilism of safety pins in their ears rather than their nappies, would have been able to appreciate the power of melody combined with Blake inspired visionary lyrics.

it's not too late, hope springs eternal in the human heart, ( well perhaps not on a bleak East Hull council estate), but it certainly does in Thailand.

I think the hippy thinketh too mutt, LOL.

What goes on on in yer mind, classic stuff.

Ah, good ole Shane before he adopted a fake Paddy accent and went all Paddy, about as Oirish as a fake Paddy pub.
