The Orlons - Cement Mixer [1963]

I always liked:

and here's tutsi in philly, just offa a flight from saudi to do some saudi immigration business (only allowed in 'home country': 'but I live in Thailand, haven't lived in the US fer 30 years' 'that looks like a US passport to me so hop it')...a bit the worse fer wear and then settles down with some vodka an' starts thinkin': 'hmmm, what next?'...and then the famous refrain appeared: 'meet me on South Street...the hippest street in town'...

and then tutsi steps outta the taxi on South Street to encounter some nicely turned out local gals in high spirits and singing...tutsi falls into step and sez to the one with the best voice: 'say babe, you sound like you knows what's happenin'...lemme buy you a drink...' and she sez: 'well, ye know mistah, that would be mighty fine but I'se only 15 years old...'...whoops of laughter and they move on down the street...

later tutsi is inna bar chatting to a white girl and then notices a dude glowering nearby...then I think: 'sheesh can't win fer losin'' and move quickly towards the exit...

afterward got a really nice pizza before bed, the best I'd had in years...so, not a total loss...good pizza in philly...

weird place, Philadelphia...

My apologies for the repetition, but when I listened to the full song I thought a bit more ...

We went down to The Waterside before my mate's wedding back in the day - it was a favourite place for a quiet romantic drink, or a night out with friends, or lunch with your mother...

But since then we have all moved on to wherever we ended up; not many of us are back in the Old Country, one fella bought the flat his family had sold many years ago in the big smoke, my clan have repatriated, but despite all my time overseas, it's always nice to come back - even for 80 minutes at Pitoddrie of the worst pish the Princess Royal has ever had to put up with.

Anyway, you can't go back, because home was a place and a time, and all you can hope is to carry your home in your heart to whatever hills you end up in; let's face it - when you've been to one place, you've been to them all....

Eventually I ended up here by way of youtube, and the North Point Logistics Depot and the HK Ambulance Corp Pipe Band...

just spacin' out and then:

a wail of despair? in popular music?

sheesh...things are complicated when I expected them to get more simple as the end approaches...

Iris Murdoch has something to say about that...

just spacing out and thinking of the old music...

whew...sure would be nice to have some nice, clean acid...in controllable doses...

but: don't worry baby, everything will turn out all right...

I went to a double-billed concert in 1981 with Chicago on stage first and then followed by the Beach Boys.  While Chicago played everyone sat in their seats.  When the Beach Boys played everyone was jumping up and down on their seats.

Great pick, tutsi.  Here's one of my favorites.

and with her madonna gaze: 'dunno, tutsi...whatever it is it's nothing to get excited about...'

Anyone who is interested in rock 'n roll history would enjoy this fascinating and colorful interview with Eric Burdon.
