Immigration Check

Featured Replies

Today we received a letter from our landlord regarding we have to fill a form because the immigration department are enforcing them to submit all details of guests staying with them by law.

Is this common everywhere or only the landlord's thing?

I stay here 5 years ago and never heard about this, anyone else received immigration form from landlord who resident in samui?

They are enforcing this in Pattaya to try and keep tabs on expat criminals living there. They've already caught a few dubious gentlemen over the past two weeks. In law, every hotel, Guesthouse etc has to get resident's details and report daily to the police. Same for people on long term renting. So I guess this will start on Samui too! In the Bangkok Post last week, it was reported that they would enforce this law in all areas where there is a large concentration of farangs: Phuket and Samui were on the list! Big Brother will be knocking on your door soon!

I guess so. Criminals are more likely to live in a luxurious villa than stay in a Guesthouse!!!!!

if that is the case then it will also expose people that are cheating tax. maybe they pretend to have no customers. which means less profit but now evething is logged. suppose it will not only piss the guests off

thats a good point what if people check in in there thai wife or girl friends name. seems like this hasn't been thought through much or maybe it is outside pressure from other countries that are enforcing these laws. The Americans and the English love telling other countries what to do. just to suite them

What about us retirees, who are either in long term rental or own houses. We who have retirement visas already do a 90 day report.

Yep. Thai criminals too! In fact Samui is the border between the BKK mafia and the Nakkon Si Timmorat mafia. Top mafias from both factions have holiday villas here and there is an unwritten law that when top mafia are here on holiday here, there is no violence between them.

if i am sure that if someone is top mafia then they could find a way of checkong into a hotel. other than the BBK Hilton
