Package Tour Operators

Featured Replies

I'd like to take the missus back to Oz with me in winter... she wants to see some snow! :o

Ideally we would fly from BKK to Melbourne, pick up a rental car at the airport for about a weeks hire, and sometime during that week, do a bus tour up to the snowfields (hopefully with rented cold weather clothing) for a couple of days.

Anyway, I was thinking that it would probably be cheaper to organise a package tour from Thailand, rather than doing it in Melbourne.

Has anyone else done this or know of any tour operators/travel agents that could organise such a trip? (BKK or Pattaya or online)

Seeing as no-one else is trying to help, I'll throw in my 2 baht worth. We are looking at a holiday in NZ in the future and I've been looking at package tours starting and finishing in NZ organised by NZ co's. The prices for these and airfares booked seperately seem to look about the same as the few prices we've seen for complete package tours from LOS. Just do a Google and you'll be surprised how many firms are offering tours and accommodation at all kinds of prices. Hope that helps. :o

Jai Dee , Perhaps you might want to rent the cold weather gear for the week mate.

I doubt that you will be able to organise a whole package from an agent here.

IMHO the easiest way to do it would be to drive the rental car up to the mountains and just pre book your accomodation from here either online or by phone. Most of the packages in oz tend to be self drive. No problem renting cold weather gear in Melbourne or in the towns just before the mountains.

If you need any help dont hesitate to send me a pm.

I expect the lack of response is that few of us use package tours. I have no idea about OZ but on trips to US I always do the planning on my computer and do not believe a package tour would be cheaper. Car rental in the US can have a very wide range of cost depending on the day you make booking - in the US you can keep looking and when a lower price becomes available cancel and book the new rate. My last trip had a three week rental at a very low rate this way (less than $20 per day). And being last customer of the night received a Chrysler convertible at a compact car price for the three weeks.

And the snow/mountain scenery in Queenstown is far superior to Oz. hey , its Middle Earth :D My mother and father in law just went recently, loved it.Easy visa process too.Issued on the spot. Didnt do a package tour though, rented a car in Auckland and drove return ~ 4500 kms, staying in mid-priced motels and lodges along the way.

Hoping to get my lady a flight back here (Perth) in about a month......the tickets are cheaper to purchase in Thailand....I have had quotes at 16700 for a 60 day ticket and 22500 for a 12 month ticket....still looking for a better price and will be checking the agencies there out in a couple of weeks.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Unfortunately, the travel agents advertising in the newspapers here (BKK Post, Nation, Pattaya Mail etc) do not have specific snowfields type packages... OK if you want to go to Sydney of Melbourne and see the usual tourist places.

I'd love to see the NZ snowfields... I've been told it is stunning scenery, however I have family in Melbourne, so it's the Victorian snowfields for me.

I've done a bit of googling, and at the moment, it looks like a fly/drive holiday will be the way to go.

If anyone out there has any more suggestions though, please send them in.

Cheers.
