Which Ibis Hotel?

Featured Replies

G'day,

I will be arriving late in the night in Bangkok (10pm?) and departing in the morning, maybe 10am to get to the airport.

Which Ibis hotel do you think is relatively traffic free or easy to get to the highway? Also, it's my first time driving into Bangkok, so I want to avoid tricky or narrow roads too.

thanks

Matt

Hi Matt.

I don't know how well you know Bangkok. But there is only two Ibis hotels in Bangkok at the moment. One in Satorn and one in Sukhumvit soi 4 (Nana). I would have stayed in Nana. It is very close to the expressway, and the traffic shouldn't be that bad that time of day. Just remember to turn left into soi 6 about 100 meters from the hotel when you are going to the airport. When you get on to Sukhumvit Road you have to keep right so you can cross over to the right lane at the Nana junction. It is illegal to do this coming out from soi 4. The entrance to the expressway is 200-300 meters after the junction.

Cheers

Yes I agree the Ibis Nana, Soi 4 is the easiest to get onto the Expressway but you must turn right out of the hotel and turn RIGHT into Soi 6 not left.

When leaving Soi 6 you must turn left onto Sukhumvit Road and get into the far right lane and when you hit the lights at the junction with Soi 4

you must switch over to the 2 lanes on the opposite carriage way to enter the Expressway. You will need to have money ready to pay the toll

upon entry and another 2 before the airport.

Thanks for the suggestions. Good pointers on the directions to the airport.

I rang the Novotel at the airport first and they told me there were 3 Ibis hotels. Just went to their website and noticed that the third one is only opening in Nov 2010. So much for informed staff, she was even ready to book me into any one of them!

The Ibis look nice, a whole lot nicer than many up here in Chiang Mai for sure. Plus they let pets stay for free, this combination is very hard to find indeed. Was looking for something like this closer to the airport (or more direct on the highway, so bypassing Bangkok) but haven't been able to find any.

thanks

Matt

Yes, sure. Right into soi 6. My mistake.

But if he manages to turn the wrong way onto Sukhumvit it would be rather interesting. :D
