Tot Blocking All Torrent Traffic

Can some explain torrents. My only experience is hearing of friends downloading porn movies. Does it have more legitimate uses? Sorry for being a Thicko and Techno Pygmy.

it's not being blocked at my house - TOT 2MB package in Chiang Mai.

Private torrents like thebox are not being blocked? That's surprising.

He didn't say private. So much unclear posting on this topic is making it a pain to read.

I was ASKING him about private ones as that is the main issue. Frankly, it isn't news that non-private ones are working.

Am using True Online and torrents are going at a normal rate.. Last month I had a scare when torrent speeds (browsing was faster) were down but this was at the same time when maintenance was being done. Things improved after 1week! Already orientated on the use of VPN but in the end in was not necessary.. There are a lot of public trackers that I cannot connect to (connection was closed by peer), but maybe that was the case before I got trouble.

Another interesting thing I found out on True's website is that with my standard 4MB package I have a data-limit of 540MB per hour..

A 4Mbit package (not MB) is 4,000,000 bits per second = 500,000 Bytes per second = 1800 MBytes per hour.

So they are restricting your use of the bandwidth for transporting data to 30%.

Which is a pretty good deal, IMO.

Like the rest of you, I'm on TOT and have big problems.

However, just joined up for free to http://www.tvchaosuk.com and am downloading my Thursday fix of Eastenders and it's coming in at about 90 kbs from 8 seeders, which ain't bad at all.

In fact, I'd almost forgotten what downloading torrents looked like ...

Only problem will be if I can't upload anything I'll be booted off the site.

Will have to worry about that then, and, in the meantime, it might be put back to normal.

Did you see that pig fly past then?

It's been fun and educating to read this thread — and disappointing, that some can't get that their moralistic viewpoint is irrelevant to the subject at hand...

A note that I tried an alternate source* for torrents and, lo and behold, it is working in uTorrent. Also, a torrent begun over a week ago is working via Transmission.

Torrents found in the last days, via TPB and Demonoid, are not working.

I'm on True, not TOT, fyi. But I hope that this is still relevant info to throw into the mix.

That says something like the ministry has been ordered to block some sites because of inappropriate pictures, or something like that. Nothing about torrents/speeds/bandwidth.

Which site did you browse to see that? Hmm, maybe you don't want to say...

it would be clear we can't discuss Proxies at all. No discussions about totally legal True transparent Proxies, for instance. I have my doubts the rule is meant this way

Can a Moderator shed light on this?

I have written up details of this in a pinned topic some time ago. Here is the link again > Proxies, VPN and other information.

With the international gateways being overloaded, it wouldn't surprise me if TOT has put torrent traffic on low priority. They have done this before and I can see them doing it again. After reading over 20 pages of comments, it sure seems that way... All the symptoms are present, especially reports of sporadic connections with some users able to connect (to trackers) while others can't.

Maybe it's time to end all this speculation about trackers being blocked. It just doesn't make any sense.

No the evidence shows differently. Private trackers being blocked TOT pretty universally. Other torrents TOT coming through for most people. That doesn't support your theory. It supports instead an intentional blocking of the private torrents. Not low pri. BLOCKED. PERIOD. Big difference.

TOT people. Private tracker that had been not connecting for the time this was first reported here NOW WORKING.

:partytime2:

Try yours out now. If it doesn't work right away, you may want to get something seeding first that came from the private tracker originally, and then attempt a new one. Maybe it's a late night only thing as rumored before. We'll see.

Hate to say it but I think TOT or CAT turned it on last night and off again about 6AM. I managed to open a few new torrents on TheBox and ones from a couple of days ago were open and downloaded but the last three torrents opened are back to the do nothing state.

Maybe they are going to open and close torrent file access at set hours - I can live with that if it's all we can get. To the anti-torrent troll(s), the real problem is ISPs selling bandwidth they don't have, either locally or through the international line. That's probably where the present problem originated.

6.56am Just started another The Box torrent - downloading normally.

Yes, it's back on again. How strange. Taking it that it's deliberate, we are getting a taste of what the ISPs/authorities are capable of. Not pleasant thoughts for the future.

yeah right, THEY can do with us users whatever they want to do. Must be terrible times back when there was no internet at all

When sarcasm doesn't really work it I guess it must be embarrassing for the writer as well as the reader.
