Sawat dii khrap

I'm married to a Thai girl who lives in Nakhon Nayok. She wants life/health insurance. She pays 15,000 baht every year for it at the moment but i don't want to give her 15,000 baht for that..Is there a cheaper insurance i can get her and pay monthly? I give her 13,000 baht a month already which she pays 3000 baht to her daughter and 3000 baht motorcycle repayments. I have paid her house off for her so she doesn't pay rent which leaves her 7000 baht a month to eat etc and pay insurance.

If somme could let me know of a cheaper monthly option that would be great.....

Come on,insurance is peanuts for a Scooter, given 13 K. P.M. she shouldn't have any finance probs.Another case of a Ferang feeding the Village again.

I don't think the OP wants insurance for the scooter, he wants health/life insurance for his wife

I think he wants to make a general saving.Do you find a need to Nit Pick

yes all i want is life/health insurance not scooter insurance....thanks

Seeing, as you say, scooter insurance is 'peanuts' how would he make a saving? And, of course, you were trying to help, that's why you said he was, what was the phrase you used? Oh yes, 'another farang feeding the village' very helpful. I'm sure now the OP has reduced his 500 baht scooter insurance to something more manageable, he's much better placed to provide health insurance for the whole village.

As for 'nit picking' you keep providing the nits, I'll pick em. :P

Why bother with health insurance, its free for Thais, unless your above all the other village folk. Its good enough for a few million Thais, and the free Dental work is much better than the U.K..My point is too many ferangs. get fleeced unless they see the Bills, and pay personally

hospital is free if you are thai??....i had to pay the dentist 5000thbt for my wifes teeth..i took her to the dentist in bangkok and paid the bill personally i saw the bill when they handed it to me...she had 10 or 12 teeth fixed

i just got a quote for less than 5000tbht/per year, i just don't want to get stuck with a large bill if she has a motorbike accident or something..i don't know what to do yet...at the moment shes been paying 15000thbt every year for 3+ years and i told her i'm not paying that much for it...she wants insurance to pay out her daughter if she dies or needs medical treatment....thanks for your reply =]

Perhaps she forgot the Tambons Clinic is free.15000over 3 Years, and you pay for the Dentist..Mother in Laws had cateracts removed perfectly for free in Supanbury,I could have paid 24K.,if another Thai had not told me what to do.Good luck, personally ive chosen a Private Hospitals Package Deal, try that for some ideas

What private hospital package deal did you get and how much is it? Also how much does it ay in case of death. The quote I got for my wife costs between 4 and 5k per year for a 45 yr old woman, but only pays 100,000k in case of death and that seems to be the thing she is most concerned with, taking care of her daughter.

What I'd most like to do is move to Thailand and work there but I don't have a Degree so I can't teach English [no Degree no work permit/teachers licence apparently] I work in Australia as a painter for 7000thbt everyday and i know painters in Thailand only get 150thbt per day so I don't think thats a viable option.

And again as far as hospital being free the first time I came back my wife had to give her daughter 20,000thbt in hospital fees for having a baby which she paid herself as she was working before and had savings..

Thanks Sire

I wonder have any board members insured with this company? And if so, are they a good outfit?

Many thanks,

sire... You need to do a bit of reading about the 30baht medical scheme (its now free but they still call it that) here in Thailand.

Every Thai gets free medical treatment at Government hospitals in the province that they are registered, This includes dental as well. also the 1st baby is free hospital care up to 25,000b.

I would be asking some questions if i were you.

Insurance is good and i can understand you wanting it but there are other issues as well.

Insurance without the healthcare is cheaper. and insurance to cover the bike at medical can also be cheaper (1st or 2nd class insurance)

the bike payments seem high. either she's paying it off quickly (less term) or its a fairly expensive bike.

http://www.nhso.go.t...index_main.jsp# This is the Government site in English.

P.S. on the website select 'NHSO information' from the menu on the left and then select 'Benefits package'.

Thailand introduced universal coverage reforms in 2001, becoming one of only a handful of lower-middle income countries to do so. Means-tested health care for low income households was replaced by a new and more comprehensive insurance scheme, originally known as the 30baht project, in line with the small co-payment charged for treatment. People joining the scheme receive a gold card which allows them to access services in their health district, and, if necessary, be referred for specialist treatment elsewhere. The bulk of finance comes from public revenues, with funding allocated to Contracting Units for Primary Care annually on a population basis. According to the WHO, 65% of Thailand's health care expenditure in 2004 came from the government, while 35% was from private sources.[2] Although the reforms have received a good deal of critisism, they have proved popular with poorer Thais, especially in rural areas, and survived the change of government after the 2006 military coup. Then Public Health Minister, Mongkol Na Songkhla, abolished the 30 baht co-payment and made the UC scheme free. It is not yet clear whether the scheme will be modified further under the coalition government that came to power in January 2008.[3][4][5]

brief info on 30 baht scheme..

Proceeding from the above, on 26th February 2001, the government launched the 30 Baht health policy. The first phase was established in six pilot provinces - Nakhonsawan, Phayao, Patum Thanee, Samut Sakhon, Yasothron and Yala - on 1st April 2001. The insured are all of the people who were not in any health scheme and whose names are in the house registrations in those provinces. These people would receive the universal health card or the gold card. This card must show consistency with the individual's identification card every time they access the health services, which are the government health services or the private sector health services registered with this project. The accessing health service has to follow the referral system from the primary health center or the nearby hospital, which are registered under the project. For emergencies and accidents, the insured can access any government health services. To access needy health services, the insured must contribute a co-pay of 30 Baht per episode. Under this 30 Baht Universal Coverage Policy, the insured will receive the same quality health services as offered by other health schemes. At present, the service package includes most health services except cosmetic care, obstetric delivery beyond two pregnancies, drug addiction treatment, hemodialysis, organ transplantation, infertility treatment, and other high cost interventions.

Does this really apply to every Thai? no matter if they are poor, without a job... or if they have a normal income?

Wife gets the same level of cover as I get.

The only suitable option I could find that works locally and internationally and has no limitations...

Bupa International B50,000 per year.

I'd be very careful and skeptical where the savings are, in an accident scenario you may find yourself in a sticky situation.

Yes providing they register at their hospital and get treatment there. If treatment is needed elswhere a referal from their base hospital is needed.

The best insurance in thailand for a Thai person is to get them a job for a couple of years which entitles them to pay social security. After a couple of years they can leave and pay a very moderate charge to remain covered.

Another thing I'm curious about... my wife used to be a Government Officer before she moved to Belgium to live with me. Recently we decided to go live in Thailand and she can just get back into the government to work.

A government worker's family (husband, children) is hereby also covered for medical issues. Does this also apply to the Farang husband?

My wife is checking things out now but maybe somebody already knows about this so...

I was slightly wrong here they do not need a referal if the treatment is emergancy treatment.

Thanks

Depending on the level of benefits required, Thai Visa can offer premiums for females from just 3,156 Baht. Please send her information Here
