I still have a 35 year old UK DL I have used in past to rent cars there. The address on it will sooner or later no longer be valid as my folks pass on and I have up rooted and moved to Thailand permanently.

Since I still plan to travel to UK occasionally what are my options? Presumably without a home in UK I cannot continue to use the UK lic in time to come? I have a full Thai DL, can that be used instead with some kind of English translation?

1. Renew your UK licence, using a friend's address in the UK (or your folks' address before they pass on) with them posting it to and fro for you.

2. Use your Thai licence (now in English and Thai) although you may have problems with insurance and some rental companies.

3. Use an International Driving Licence obtained in Thailand on your Thai licence, valid for 90 days from when you enter the UK (or any country)

Renew you old license before you are 70 and should be OK.....Aunt Marys address ...

As visitors... Thais can drive in the UK for 12 Months as long as they have their FULL National DL (no dodgy KS Rd versions)PLUS a legally issues International Permit.

Longer than the 12 Months they got to get a Provisional UK/EU Lic and pass the Test.

GB wallahs visiting LOS need their UK/EU National + Plus an International Jobbi (incl usual mugshot)and they (together) can be used for up to...6 MONTHS

....then you gotta get a Thai 1 year ..and after that if still surviving ...a 5 spot.....
